View Full Version : Should Illegal Immigrants get Health Insurance?

Basically he's just screaming "They shouldn't be here in the 1st place so we shouldn't have to deal with them at all."
That's not realistic.
They are here now so we have been forced to deal with them. You can try to ignore them but the illegals aren't going anywhere. You can try to demonize them and hate them but that still won't make them go anywhere.
We have to decide what to do with them, legally, and we also have to decide what our immigration policy is going to be. Arguing that "They shouldn't have been here in the 1st place" is a child's mentality. We have to deal with the now, not the 20 years ago.
Definitely. We can't even decide what to do with them now tho until we do something to prevent more of them in the future. It's insane to think we can round them all up and ship them back, but it's equally insane to pretend that it's not a problem. There's plenty of middle ground between shipping them all home and registering them to vote.

I think everyone in this thread except 1 person will agree with you.

I simply dont want more of my money gone, where does it stop? I pay my own healthcare, and while I dont like the expense, I would rather pay it, than have government in charge.
Illegals are not entitled to shit in my book.

I'm not a doctor, and I don't play one on TV, but I think if a person doesn't deficate every once in a while they may die. And don't worry, I don't think they would take a dump in your book anyway.

In my opinion another bill like Simpson Mazzoli aka Amnesty that was passed in 1986 will be defeated. I know that it is impossible to round up every illegal alien and deport them, the amount of money and time would be counterproductive. However the laws on the books already should be enforced. The 1st place to start is with employment, also go after the slumlords renting a 2 family house to 30 of them. Theres all type of fire building codes violations as well as healthcode violations. If theres no work or noplace to live then the illegals will self deport
I never understood why unions especially the carpetnters union were not opposed to illegal immigration. They should be angry about the cheap labor that replaced them during the housing boom

Politics, as always. Operating on the premise that some sort of amnesty will be passed eventually - something I wholeheartedly disagree with - then the unions want to have that labor under their umbrella. That way there isn't a pool of labor out there competing against the unions, and then there is also a large block of hispanic voters guided to the Dems.

YOU will STILL have the OPTION to PAY YOUR OWN WAY! For Christ's sake, man, try to understand the issue. You're making no effort to grasp the concept. You are what drags the country down, not illegal immigrants - at least they don't have some false sense of entitlement that allows them to pontificate on the flaws or merits of an issue they don't understand.

I believe the cost of social services, education, and health care, for anchor babies(children of illegal immigrants) is a valid point, in the cost of illegal immigration.
It starts at the hospitals, where the births cost $3000-6000, then on to the costs of welfare(housing subsidies, food stamps, wic, and other welfare), then to the cost of health care and education.
Now due to the 14th amendment these children are citizens, thus entitled to these programs, but I still think it is an honest factor to the overall cost of illegals.

my option to pay my way does not change the fact that my taxes will rise to pay for yours.
public option should be off the table, first deregulate the insurance companies to allow consumers to purchase insurance from any of 1000+ insurers in the country. That will really allow for consumer savings.

Well, you're overlooking the fact that the water isn't to blame and, I might add, where there's smoke there's fire - is smoke to blame?

I always blame fires on smoke. Fuck smoke. How much money does smoke cost us? its 2009, why haven't we figured out how to get rid of smoke.

If you are opposed to taxes paying for any of the following:
cops, firemen, VA, Medicare, Medicaid, the military, USPS, schools, public universities, research grants, Social Security, road networks & other public works etc. etc. etc. ?
Then you're shit out of luck. Taxes are passed by elected representatives, laws are passed by elected representatives and luckily, all you can do is spew drivel about it, because you're in the minority and the Congress acts for the good of the nation more often than not. Now, as a die-hard liberal, I'm also disappointed in Congress. I WOULD like Universal health care coverage, single-payer system, universal health education, and a bunch of other stuff you would go bonkers about, and I'm not getting any of it. I'm pissed, but I understand that this is how the system works and I deal with it.

Tough choice, my friend. I do not envy Ron Bennington for having to make this decision.

Ban this, ban that.
I'm a liberal and this sort of thinking is why I hate a lot of other liberals.
Guns, drugs, smoking, gay marriage, straight marriage, bestiality. Make it all legal ... well, the bestiality thing should be by consent, maybe get some horse whisperers to confirm first.
Now, I don't care if you tax the shit out of it, but the criminalization of personal choice acts has to stop.

And yet study after study proves that "illegal immigrants" are the ONLY sector that the federal government makes net positive revenue from. Maybe they don't want more of THEIR money gone and don't like the expense of YOU.
DAMMIT EARTHBROWN GIVE THE ILLEGALS THEIR MONEY BACK!

I agree, personal choice in the above things, if they want to make drugs legal and tax the shit out of it cool. If they did do this, I ould expect my income tax to go down, not continue to rise due to out of control spending.
Now if this happened, the gov't could afford to pay for healthcare, with the tax revenue and all the money saved on police and prisons.

There are arguements on both sides, Some want illegal aliens locked up if they commit a crime, however there are costs for incarceration. Others want deportation, however there are many cases when an illegal is deported, he sneaks right back into the country. A few months ago an illegal Guatemalan deported 4 times ended up going back to Brewster NY. Anyone from that area knows about the drunken illegal who killed that mother and daughter coming out of a dance school, and other instances after that when it seemed like every other day illegals were being arrested for DUI
