View Full Version : Worst Sports Programming

For reasons I can't quite recall now, I watched about half an hour of the dreadful "College Gameday" show on ESPN. This show BLOWS, and might be the single worst sports show on TV, or at least up there.
First, the idea of having all those college students standing around behind them gets very old after a very short time. And who are these nerds who are up before noon on a Saturday morning when they're in college. Shit, when I was in college, if I was up at noon on Saturday, it was because I hadn't gotten to bed yet. And if it did happen, I was probably too fucking hungover to go stand around and watch three douches give stale, superficial game analysis.
But this leads to the biggest problem of the show, quite possibly the biggest idiot in sports programming: the awful Lee Corso. This guy isn't even attempting to pretend to have anything substantial to say about the games anymore: it's all his tired act, and he's an utter clown. And the show ended with the bizarre sight of Corso making some little boy sit in his lap, while Corso put on a fake USC Trojan helmet, grabbed a sword, and pretended to stab him. Probably a Freudian rendition of what else he wishes he was doing to that kid, the sick bastard.
I guess my excuse for watching now is that I'm getting old and I'm in bed much earlier on Friday night these days. But I can't really use that one anymore, I don't think.
Anyway, do you agree with me that this show is an utter abortion, or can you think of one that's even worse?

In his defense, he did have a pretty major stroke over the summer.
And I like Gameday. It can be pretty cheesy, but its a good way to get all the major stories and matchups of the day in football. Besides, its ESPN. Why would expect any sort of hard hitting journalism or cognizant exposes?

I have been unable to watch sports pre-game, post-game, or wrap-up shows for years now. They bore me to death.
I like watching the game, not the hype. I also don't need anyone to tell me what I just saw.

I had no idea. I was wondering why he was stuttering so much and getting so many things wrong.

Yeah...it took him pretty much the whole summer to learn to speak again. I think he's still unable to write.

yea sportscenter is gettin pretty bad. In fact, the college stuff is about the only thing left on ESPN I can tolerate. They hire the worst fuckin guys for everything else.
I still put on SC to see the few parts with actual highlights, but i find myself checkin espnews alot more

Poker on tv was so great. It had to push back the talk show replays.

I just cannot stand any of the NFL pregame shows. I cannot handle four people all trying to talk over one another.

Then you have some that give game rundowns but can't enunciate.

Does the US Open really have enough viewers to justify CBS airing it instead of a football game on opening weekend?

Whenever ESD tries to talk sports outside of MLB (unless it's the yanks and that homer shit sucks too) or Ronnie harps on how he hates sports radio. Both awful.

Not only is Gameday not a terrible show, it may be the greatest show on TV. As for the students behind them- it is mainly for them, not the tv audience. I was pumped last year when gameday finally came to Lubbock even though I wasn't there. However, if you love the college football atmosphere, you can appreciate those students.
Also, I love seeing the days matchups and picks. Not that I need it, but it gets me pumped up to watch some college football. I even enjoy the "cheesy" story the do every week about Michael Oher or Tim Tebow or whoever.
I've always been indifferent about Corso. Never loved him, never hated him. Also, it's really popular to call Herbstriet an idiot but that dude knows college football. I think he's really fun to listen to.
College Gameday presented by the Home Depot- Greatest show ever.
