Girl walking in the road, 9 at night, DARK, and the mother says that the only reason police did not charge the driver who killed her, is racism.

CHIPLEY — Lashawn Henderson was hit by a truck, but she was still alive when her mother saw her from a distance, lying at the side of Seventh Avenue.

The 17-year-old girl was dead minutes later, in a helicopter on its way to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

For her family, especially her mother, “it’s just not adding up.”

“I can’t even begin to think about how I’m going to bury her,” Tracy Miller said Tuesday, four days after the strange Friday night crash killed her daughter, an incident police said appeared to be a freak accident.

“If this was a white girl, this guy would be in jail right now.”

The crash happened about 9:10 p.m. Friday, when Henderson and companion Victor Keith were walking north on Seventh Avenue. Henderson, police said later, was walking in the road.

A pickup truck hit her from behind, vaulting her off the hood and onto the east shoulder of the street.



I had a little sympathy, until the man this girl was walking with ROBBED the person who hit her.

Driver Samuel Taylor Toole, 20, of Bonifay, skidded 73 feet on his right-side tires after he tried to steer sharply to the left, according to a Florida Highway Patrol crash report.

“Right now, the investigation is leaning toward the driver of the vehicle not being at fault,” Chipley Police Chief Kevin Crews said Tuesday. It was dark, and Toole couldn’t see Henderson in time.

But he added the caveat that the case was still open.

The FHP, in its crash report, listed charges as pending investigation. Crews said his department would handle the case.

Chipley police did make one arrest: They charged the other pedestrian, Keith, with two counts of robbery, alleging he demanded money from Toole and his passenger Kimberly Brown, 20, after the crash.

“The male counterpart that was walking with our victim in the crash, he went over and actually punched the window of the driver’s vehicle out and demanded their money, which they gave him,” Crews said.

I will reserve my opinion that the mother is TRASH, and chalk it up to grief over losing her daughter. This just seems like a typical response.

I dont think the comments were about being compassionate at all, its about the girls idiotic mother screaming racism because the driver didnt see her, at night, walking down the road.

We had that in atlanta where this mother was taking her family across a really busy street down here at 5am where there was no crosswalk and then screamed racism, even though paramedics said they had to help the man driving the van into another car because he was so distraught. Sometimes its just an accident, it doesnt change the fact you feel personally hurt but not everything is racism and now with it being used every single time its losing all meaning.

Here is a news flash, I can see a car from 10 miles away on a straight road at night, if I am in a car at night I can see about 50 feet with low beams on. I would say most people who are hit by a car at night are at fault. A car in the street will travel a pretty predictable pattern, if you are walking, avoiding this is almost as easy as avoiding a train.
