I was sticking with Fox's ability to avoid letting facts get in the way of a good story. I thought it would make a good new slogan.
They turned down my last submission, a name for Hannity's old show. "Hannity and the Ugliest Liberal We Can Show on TV."

Really, this is such a biased opinion. I'm not going to get into a whole debate here but FOX news covers more stories than any of the other cable networks and presents the most balenced opinion. You're proclivity to liberalisim has severly skewed your view. I listenj to NPR and Fox the most. Between the two you get a good pallate of the news.

The only balance achieved by Fox is that they are so far right and skewed that way, that they may balance out any leaning by the any other networks.
But in and of itself, it's not balanced.

I am not sure what you mean about "covering more stories." More stories in general, or more stories you care about. Because, I remember them covering the death of one teenage girl for weeks, if not months. Not really leaving room for other important stories, like war, economy, crime, international affairs, Michael Jackson's wake, who Jennifer Aniston is dating now, etc.
BUT, in this thread, I am just being a wise ass. Not trying to get into a "my network is better than yours" fight. Furthermore, just to be clear where I stand, more important than the liberal/conservative difference of the networks, is their similarity; profit before everything else; principles, morals, integrity, actual journalism, etc.

I love Fox News too. You can always tell if they like the politician in question by looking to see if they gave them an R or a D next to their name.
Healthcare reform finally? Max Baucus, R-MT (http://mediamatters.org/blog/200909170018)
John McCain, D-AZ talking about amnesty (http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/fnc/fnc_puts_mccain_in_the_democratic_party_76962.asp)
Mark Foley, D-FL diddling kids (http://www.newshounds.us/2006/10/03/fox_uses_subliminal_ploy_on_foley_head_shot.php#mo re)

EDIT: I found the story. Being goofy during a morning show. Then they superimposed the photos over dogs, so it could be argued that everyone knew they were manipulating the photos for fun.
Still douchebags. And surprise, O'Reilly defends the morning show, because the Times had drawn cartoons of him. Sure, the cartoons resembled him much more than the doctored photos resembled the reporters, but that would be my own ivory tower elitist spin.

You know what your getting into watching FNC, and its hardly Fiar and Balanced News reporting.
Although they do cover some stories that MSNBC or CNN don't in more detail.......only if it serves to bury the current administration. I would say it's "Fair" considering for 8 years the other Networks got to do it to Bush.
O'Reilly is always skwaking about how FNC beats all the others in ratings. Is that true? I'm too lazy to look for myself.
Glenn Beck and Keith Olbermann both make me want to throw my TV and Cable Box off of a 30 story building with thier horrid "News Reporting".

The last ratings I saw showed Fox on top. Second went to the "Anti Fox", MSNBC. The only network (in my opinion) that comes close to being somewhat neutral (CNN) was an EXTREMELY distant third.
The viewing public wants to watch the channel that best fits their own personal views. Fox and MSNBC realize this, and are cashing in.

Yeah, FOX does the same thing to MSNBC.
CNN is good at doing just the Monotone delivery of the news, which is what I kinda like. FNC and MSNBC almost seem like either could just inch over some and become a 24/7 version of TMZ.

I recall before the election a lot of conservatives would defend FoxNews as being fair. What's changed? Their programming being dedicated 24 hours to disagreeing with everything the President says? I don't think I've ever seen a mainstream news source that's SO embedded with a political party. I think Maddo and Olbermann probably are, though I see them go off democrat message, they will however disagree with everything conservative. It's fascinating to me that ENTIRE FoxNews network is like a commerical for conservatism AND it's so popular. It's amazing.
Honestly, I don't watch any of these shows anymore. I find them pointless.

I don't think it does the same thing as MSNBC. Don't get me wrong, MSNBC is just as useless as Fox as far as getting real news, but I don't think MSNBC spreads the democrat message as much as Fox spreads the republican message. FoxNews is like the information arm of the republican party, whereas MSNBC seems like it's a reaction to that.
The great thing that Fox News does for me is identify the lunatic in any room. I can hear them speak "Blah, blah, blah, I saw that on Fox News!"...and immediately find the maniac.

When anyone says that Fox News is balanced, what they really mean is that the opinions on it reflect their own. And they refuse to acknowledge that their opinions are opinions and not fact.
It's like the intellectual dishonesty about the "No Spin" zone. Saying there is no spin is wrong. What he means is that it's his "spin" and of course he thinks that his spin is fact, not just opinion.

fox having better rating than cnn and msnbc has nothing to do with a liberal bias, it simply means the viewership is largely conservative.
There is no debate here. FoxNews dominates in ratings.
It's from their message: most of what you hear on Fox News is someone subliminally telling you that every other news source is lying to you. Often times they cut right to the chase and tell you that. Murdoch has created a successful vehicle doing the exact same thing in different countries. There's a certain psychological lure to conservatives he has perfected the use of. It's almost diabolical how effective he and his corporation are at roping in target demographics.

Classic example is that BillO always beat Olby in the 8pm slot, Many would say that BillO has an older audience, but looking at the ratings BillO is taking in the 25-54 Demo
How is Beck surviving?About 3 dozen advertisers pulled their ads from his show. Agree with him or not, 3 million people at 5pm is pretty amazing for that time slot

And if you take a closer look at the ratings, it's the entire South that's watching FOX which bumps up their numbers. In the Northeast, Midwest, Southwest, and West Coast...the ratings are far more spread out across CNN and the Major networks. As for the type of people that watch FOX, it's overwhelmingly Christian Conservatives which do make up a big block of people. (cringe)

FoxNews pulls the highest ratings of cable channels, but when they are just a click away from network news, they are often beaten in the ratings.

Pretty much the same herd of about 4 milion people lisyten to Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and O'Reilly.
Those conservative hosts like to claim America is a "center-right" country, but when they discuss the ratings, they never point out they prove most conservatives must have a case of the dumbass, given the conservative insistence that all but Fox are extreme lefties.
They never explain why FoxNews never pulls a 50 share or greater.
No, when one looks at the total viewers of all the news programs on cable and network news, one must conclude that most conservative viewers are watching those hated socialist news programs and are too damned stupid to know they should be watching Fox....

Well, it is nice having a place that gathers all this together, giving us concrete examples of Fox distorting the news or just making shit up, but, yeah, it does make Media Matters just look like the "We hate Fox" people.
But, then again, they'd already been portrayed as that, so why not go with it? Why not just say that that's what you're doing, and really dedicate yourself to it?

The poll doesn't say they believe God punished Japan just that it was a sign from God (and it was only 38%). If you believe in God doesn't it make sense that everything is a sign from God in one way or another?
What I don't get is how people don't believe it was a sign from God. It is so sad to think that the purpose of life is toil away meaninglessly and it can all be wiped away in a random second. To think that there is no order or meaning to life is just sad.

I do believe in God, but I dont believe natural disasters are always a sign from him. It would go against the very idea of free will if God punished people for using it. I believe God gave man free will and when things happen to a person, good or bad, its a result of the gift of free will.

I dont know if there is a God. I do think that its possible that there is. There are a lot of different variables like for example if he created the universe, maybe he really didnt know how powerful it would be. Kind of like unintended consequences.
This opens up the questions if he is all poweful, all knowing and all loving. That I have no idea.

I like this, well put... im stealing a chunk of this when people ask me to explain why I have the word ego tattooed on my chest. This will now be the ego as it relates to religion part of my explanation, so i'll start there, go into why ego is important as a concept, and then end as I always do... stripped down to a loincloth, reciting this:
I am. I think. I will.
My hands . . . My spirit . . . My sky . . . My forest . . . This earth of mine. . . . What must I say besides? These are the words. This is the answer.
I stand here on the summit of the mountain. I lift my head and I spread my arms. This, my body and spirit, this is the end of the quest. I wished to know the meaning of things. I am the meaning. I wished to find a warrant for being. I need no warrant for being, and no word of sanction upon my being. I am the warrant and the sanction.
It is my eyes which see, and the sight of my eyes grants beauty to the earth. It is my ears which hear, and the hearing of my ears gives its song to the world. It is my mind which thinks, and the judgement of my mind is the only searchlight that can find the truth. It is my will which chooses, and the choice of my will is the only edict I must respect.
Many words have been granted me, and some are wise, and some are false, but only three are holy: "I will it!"
Whatever road I take, the guiding star is within me; the guiding star and the loadstone which point the way. They point in but one direction. They point to me.
We have hundreds more books for your enjoyment. Read them all!
I know not if this earth on which I stand is the core of the universe or if it is but a speck of dust lost in eternity. I know not and I care not. For I know what happiness is possible to me on earth. And my happiness needs no higher aim to vindicate it. My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose.
Neither am I the means to any end others may wish to accomplish. I am not a tool for their use. I am not a servant of their needs. I am not a bandage for their wounds. I am not a sacrifice on their altars.
I am a man. This miracle of me is mine to own and keep, and mine to guard, and mine to use, and mine to kneel before!
I do not surrender my treasures, nor do I share them. The fortune of my spirit is not to be blown into coins of brass and flung to the winds as alms for the poor of the spirit. I guard my treasures: my thought, my will, my freedom. And the greatest of these is freedom.
I owe nothing to my brothers, nor do I gather debts from them. I ask none to live for me, nor do I live for any others. I covet no man's soul, nor is my soul theirs to covet.
I am neither foe nor friend to my brothers, but such as each of them shall deserve of me. And to earn my love, my brothers must do more than to have been born. I do not grant my love without reason, nor to any chance passer-by who may wish to claim it. I honor men with my love. But honor is a thing to be earned.
I shall choose friends among men, but neither slaves nor masters. And I shall choose only such as please me, and them I shall love and respect, but neither command nor obey. And we shall join our hands when we wish, or walk alone when we so desire. For in the temple of his spirit, each man is alone. Let each man keep his temple untouched and undefiled. Then let him join hands with others if he wishes, but only beyond his holy threshold.
For the word "We" must never be spoken, save by one's choice and as a second thought. This word must never be placed first within man's soul, else it becomes a monster, the root of all the evils on earth, the root of man's torture by men, and of an unspeakable lie.
The word "We" is as lime poured over men, which sets and hardens to stone, and crushes all beneath it, and that which is white and that which is black are lost equally in the grey of it. It is the word by which the depraved steal the virtue of the good, by which the weak steal the might of the strong, by which the fools steal the wisdom of the sages.
What is my joy if all hands, even the unclean, can reach into it? What is my wisdom, if even the fools can dictate to me? What is my freedom, if all creatures, even the botched and the impotent, are my masters? What is my life, if I am but to bow, to agree and to obey?
But I am done with this creed of corruption.
I am done with the monster of "We," the word of serfdom, of plunder, of misery, falsehood and shame.
And now I see the face of god, and I raise this god over the earth, this god whom men have sought since men came into being, this god who will grant them joy and peace and pride.
This god, this one word:
"I."

See even though I believe in God, doesnt mean I follow all of the church. Every rule of the church minus say, the 10 commandments are rules of men, not God. Rules that they change all the time as well.
As far as the story of creation, Its amazes me that people would think that when the Earth was created God would use the same measure of time that we use now. I dont see why a God couldnt create the Earth and have it take millions of years to evolve. But people take everything they read so literally that to them creating Earth in a day has to mean 24 hours. Not 25 hours or 40 hours or 100 million years. Thats the key to where creation and evolution come together in my opinion, its the question of how time was measured.

See I dont take the bible as set in stone. Thats just ridiculous. Its a set of stories, probably BASED on true tales, set to teach people a better way to live. Did a boy named David slay an actualy giant? I dont think so. But did a smaller boy have the balls to step up to what would THEN be considered a giant and beat him? Maybe a guy that was 6'2 and an aggressive person? That wouldnt surprise me. And so the stories become exaggerated as a way to teach lessons. That story alone teaches multiple lessons.
The problem is so many people think they are etched in stone that they take the story and leave the lesson! And people that have to deal with these assholes get so fed up they just write the entire book off as bullshit without giving it any kind of credence whatsoever.
Even if you arent religious, the bible is filled with all kinds of life lessons aimed at making people better and society overall a better place. That cant be denied.

The GOP is becoming the Whigs but it's not because of some opinion shows.
Their brand sucks and for the 2nd time in 4 years they nominated an extremely flawed candidate and underestimated Obamas campaign, get out the vote .etc.
Also they blew their wad early on the 1st debate performance.
