how on earth could they have not called him up for 1 freakin weekend in May or something ... get it out of the way so you wouldn't have to end up in this situation.

I agree ... but they must have thought he was somewhat useful or they wouldn't have signed him in the first place. So if they knew the reason he came back, and all he needed was one day of service time, I think it sucks they didn't bring him up for one day.

They will call him up the last game of the season.

They fucking better. They have two spots open on their roster. I know they're in a a close playoff chase, but he doesn't even have to be in the game - just on the roster.

Probably because of a 25 man roster deal or something.
Is he on the 40 man roster?

What a maroon. $300k last year and he passed on the Cobra, knowing he has a sick child?
Sounds like someone lookin for charity when he should be lookin for another job.
Don't get me wrong, my heart goes out to his son ( pun there) but if family is first, as he says, he woulda been securing a job, not chasing a dream

This is his job.
Well, like u, he's obviously not very good at it.
If I had a sick kid, I wouldn't pursue my dream of rockstardom ( or whatever). I'd do whatever it takes to ENSURE my kid is protected.
Not gamble his sons life on some boyhood dream.
Now, I say fuck Sal Fasano.

Or, like you and your band, he's absolutely terrible at it.

I kind of agree. I don't understand making the gamble under the circumstances.

No college education, lousy job market, and he's already spent shitloads of money for the kid. He was trying to keep everything afloat with the promise he'd get called up.

I don't understand why they didn't take COBRA under the circumstances, but also, with Fasano's set of skills and the current economy, there was no guarantee he'd get a job that he could protect his family outside of baseball.

300k.
Minus half in taxes - 150
less the agent's cut. 120.
Now, he's living in Colorado Springs and the family is in Illinois.
You can see how that money can evaporate quickly in that situation.

Ur exactly right!
Now ur getting it. I realize that enough not to gamble my life away on it, which is why I got a real job.
U see everyone, mojo is not as dumb as he tries to make himself out to be.
( I mean, these ridiculous posts ARE intentional, right?)

See how Tenbats broke it down: Fasano getting another job and coverage is by no means a sure bet. It's arguable that he had better odds of getting a roster spot, however brief, in his established career.
And thank God you broke up your band. You guys were that shitty on purpose, right? Like it was a whole Spinal Tap thing?

$135k?
He'd be doin ok if he was livin in jersey with it's inflated real estate and highest taxes in the nation.
Im sure he's doin well with an Illinois address.

Bands not broken up. We actually have some gigs lined up in next few months. And we're actually quite good ( played Webster hall last year)
But then, ur taste in music is notoriously shitty, so....

First, it's 120 with an agent's 10 percent cut.
Secondly, with the kid's medical woes, that money can evaporate fast. Especially, again, living in two locations.

how about Fasano call up some of his more popular friends and make a charity golf outing to help his kid once the season s over
maybe some of the bigger fish can help a little mustached fish out

How is that a lie? Your musical tastes are horrible.

Again with the crazy talk.
So Fasano is making $12K/month and has the minor league insurance...and he's a charity case to the point that the Rockies are supposed to call him up during their playoff chase?
If its such a big deal, maybe the Yankees should've done it.

12k/5mos = 60k. Not exactly huge money when your son has millions of dollars in expenses regarding his surgery. (baseball players, especially minor leaguers, are only paid during the season.)
I think the article is poorly written because it doesn't give a full understanding of what Fasano's expenses are.

I kind of agree. I don't understand making the gamble under the circumstances.
Because when you walk with $162,000 for the year, paying $20,000 for Cobra is a big risk. Now if thats your only option then yea I agree, you take it. But when you have a chance of playing at least 1 game and getting the healthcare why spend 1/8th of your yearly income???
Im sorry, the Rockies are fucking scumbags for this. Call the guy up to play backup catcher one fucking game. The chances of actually needing him in the game is 1%. Its disgraceful. Some people are just heartless. (no pun intended)

In some cool news, Sal Fasano has retired and is now going to be the manager for the Blue Jay's Low-A ball team.
Good start for a good guy.
