I know dentistry is not your field but... maybe you can help me.
I had a tooth pulled a week ago tuesday. It is the rearmost molar on my left side lower. I followed the doctors instructions for care of the wound. It has been 7 days now and there is still a hole where the tooth was. I believe a piece of the tooths root was left attached. I am financially not able to go back to the dentist right now. I have been using an oral antiseptic to fight off any infection and about 10 Advil a day for pain.
My question is will this piece come out by itself?
Should I be concerned about taking about 100 advil in 3 weeks?
Thank you in advance for your response and thank you for all the services you provide to the R/F community.

dude, any self-respecting dentist
would correct a botched extraction
at no cost to you
call him asap and explain the situation
i bet he will tell you to come over
and then do it for free

First: What Dude! said.
Second: I think what you're describing is the dreaded "DRY SOCKET". It's definitely treatable and I would imagine your dentist will respond to your discomfort immediately if you just call the office. I'd also like to page Dr Joe K to answer this; he deals with these things every day (well, hopefully not that often if you catch my drift).
your pal,
Steve
