I'm trying to remember the name of a movie I saw a while back on IFC:

It was either French or Belgian, and it told the story of an unhappy couple taking a road trip to visit their children several hundred miles away. They are dysfunctional, he's an alcoholic, and they fight to the point of her leaving the vehicle to take a train to see the kids. He goes to a bar and gets drunk and picks up a hitchhiker who turns out to be an escaped convict. Before he can be murdered, the man kills the convict with a rock. He then tracks down his wife at a small hospital, and finds out that she was raped by the criminal before he picked him up.

a movie that stars Christopher Reeves, Nicolette Sheridan and Michael Caine. Reeves and Sheridan are actors, Caine is the director and they are part of a traveling play. As the movie goes on, the play gets worse and worse. please help.
