Well try to get in to a good company as a secretary, maybe through a temp agency to start. But good companys give you chance to get the good stuff in future.

Being that you are only 17 I don't see that happening in the recent future. But good luck.

I wish I was 17 again. Man, what I would do differently.

Don't worry about it. Maybe I look 17 still. Is that why I get carded everywhere I go??? Hehe

With today's job market, it's pretty hard to come by a decent job. I slaved away at a job for 7 years that had sucky benefits and such to help pay for school and I moonlighted as a computer tech. I jumped up the ladder at my old job because some of the people above me got tired of the BS from the bosses and moved on. I wound up as a manager, which gave me some fodder for the resume getting me my current (much better job).
The point of the matter is, you won't have something great fall into your lap. Lots of people will work for years at a job and grow to hate it. Find a job that helps pay the rent, and use that to get some broadened experience. I know it may not be what you want to hear, but everyone needs to roll with the punches for a while. Then put out your resume' when the job market is better.
Keep your goals set, but realize that you have to travel a road to get there.
Good Luck.

DANIGIRL - It's never to late to attend college, graduate school, or any other type of institution of higher learning.
HAVENOSTAPLES offered an excellent suggestion, namely using a temp agency. At the very least you can work for a few months and then have something to put on your resume. It's also conceivable that the company will like you so much that they hire you directly.

A friend of mine lost his job when his company went bankrupt. While collecting unemployment, he took advantage of some of the government programs that are out there (he's from Jersey, but I'm sure they exist in NY as well).
He took real estate courses, scored very high on the tests, and was hired about a year ago by an agency. He's been doing pretty well since then. Take advantage of everything that you have access to.

Talk to lots of people, make contacts, ask your friends if their company is hiring. After I got out of college, I spent months and months trying to find a job through Monster, the NY Times, everywhere. In the end, I got a job cause my mom happened to talk to our neighbor accross the street and her company was looking for someone. You never know where a job might come from!
