I was asked in another thread if I was angered by 9/11. Since this was not relevant to the thread or forum I have decided to post this here with a poll to see how anyone else on the board feels about this. Another September has ended and I think it’s a good time to reflect. I must admit, I am also curious to see how this in any way pertains to the Roman Polanski situation.

No I am not angered by 9/11 (2001). I will never forget that date for as long as I live. I remember where I was and what I was doing when I heard about the attacks but more importantly I remember hearing about the beautiful acts of courage and selflessness by average American citizens in response to a cowardly attack on innocent civilians, including women and children.

I remember my buddies in the USMCR that had jobs as EMT’s, Cops, and firefighters telling me
about the horrors they witnessed and the miracles too. I remember the first responders in the PD & FD, the military and national guard, Active and Reserve, stepping up and securing the skies and the cities.

I am outraged, however, by 9/10/01. Terrorism is a hard thing to fight, regional politics and religious/cultural ideology is not easily dealt with and I don’t think we will ever have world peace but there is right and wrong. The Feds and Spooks were on to these cocksuckers but didn’t follow through because of petty interagency bullshit. I am outraged because safeguards were in place to catch these scum and they were flagged but the people tasked with this job were asleep at the wheel.

I am sad about every day from 9/12/01 on because despite all the acts of bravery on 9/11 we have let the far right in this country make fear a rally cry. A rally cry to line the pockets of government contractors and oil companies and expand the federal government. I am sad because I voted for change from this bullshit “conservatism” but so far have gotten a lot of the same.

I love the spirit we saw from the people in this country on 9/11. I think a national day of service is a fitting tribute to this and I volunteer with the DAV and CAP. I hope we don’t let the “hawks” scare us in to more needless loss of life and I hope the “change” comes through on their promises.

I was getting my butt peed in when the towers came down. So...that in fact, was what I was feeling.

You crack me up. The reason I asked you is because you got on someone's case about have false outrage about the Roman polanski situation because they didn't protest in the streets of LA thirty years ago even though the person explained that they weren't aware of the full story until just recently.

So, did you protest in front of the airports to voice your outrage about how they don't have enough safeguards in place right after 9/11?
Did you protests in front of the white house because they are helping the oil companies line their pockets, right after 9/11?
Did you protest at an FBI building right after 9/11 because you think they are cocksuckers that have too much interagency bullshit?

I remember feeling tremendous sadness not only for the lives of the innocent that were taken, but also for the fact that humanity could have such hatred for itself.

The sight of those planes smashing into the towers feels like a kick in the chest to me. I can't explain how sickening it is.

I was/am sad for 9/11. I will never forget those days of and following. How silent the sky was (we have an airport nearby), watching the news all day and night long. I remember everyone coming together raising money for the Red Cross.

What scared me the most is when Bush declared war that following year. Burkely had already been born, he was less than a month old. I remember that night that Bush declared it, I held Burkely and Ryan close in bed for fear of being bombed or something as scary. I wanted us to be very close together. I let my imagination run wild during those first 2 years following 9/11/01.

I also remember being at Mt. Rushmore that summer and watching the lighting ceremony in awe of our county, yet scared too.

Everyday that I see a terrorist has been killed, it hurts a little less.

I can see that. On the day of, I ran through the whole gammet of emotions; confusion, disbelief, anger, fear, sadness, guilt, revenge.

As time goes on I try to take ownership and frame my feelings instead of letting the cowards who attacked us frame it for me. I choose to focus on the beauty of the American spirit that came out that day.

You crack me up. The reason I asked you is because you got on someone's case about have false outrage about the Roman polanski situation because they didn't protest in the streets of LA thirty years ago even though the person explained that they weren't aware of the full story until just recently.

That was not how I explained the false outrage in the thread you are referring to. Please reread what I wrote and post any questions you may have for me in that thread if you want to know why I call it false outrage (although I think I have done a good job of explaining it already).

No I didnt. I put on my uniform and went to work. I stayed extremely busy.

Im still really mad, and any other cocksuckers who plan other terrorist attacks (on subways in nyc recently i think?) really piss me off. Other than you could have had a future in gay fisting videos, what the fuck are you trying to prove by sticking 1lb. of explosives and a detonator up your ass??

Any "extremist" is really just a self important douchebag who in a twisted and bizzare way is looking for his 15 seconds of fame. Ugh, the thought of these fuckers thinking they're doing "gods will" sickens me.

What gets me just as angry is these fucking Conspiracy theorists. I saw Loose Change which had all these crazy conspiracy ideas and I also saw all the documentaries debunking all their loony ideas

My question to these people is always if George Bush is a walking talking bumbling buffoon then how was he able to carry out something like this?

I now regard 9/11 philosophically. I'm much more interested in how the rules of the game changed that day. How the ripples of past indiscretions were felt in the present moment, the effective future. How the new enemy is willing to kill themselves before we can get that 'satisfaction'. That there is no longer a target, the target dies on completion of the act. That the new enemy lives with us and works with us. That two planes were hijacked, but more importantly the media was hijacked. There was no room for political spin. There was no 'this just in from a faraway land'. 9/11 was live and we all witness the changing face of globalization. This is the new world.
