Looks like Giant Brian got canned from Project 961, El Jefe and Shaffee will continue to host the morning show. Maybe they will bring J Dubs up from Tampa and bring back The Hideout.
Project 9-6-1 has let go Giant Brian Carothers from the show.
Chris Williams, the proram director, emailed me Saturday morning confirming the news I heard Friday afternoon, noting that his partners on the show Jefe and Shaffee will stay on for a “music intensive” morning show:
Just wanted to share the latest on the changes coming for Project 9-6-1. Brain’s contract expired in July and we were unable to agree on terms for an extension. I am confident that Brian will have success in whatever venture he pursues next. I am equally confident that Shaffee and Jefe continuing to host morning give us the best chance to grow ratings immediately moving forward. Project 9-6-1 is gearing up for life after the Atlanta Braves. A big part of this post baseball era is a recommitment to being Atlanta’s rock station 24/7. As we get back to our core value of playing music, Shaffee and Jefe are staying aboard to host a music driven morning drive program. This will continue to allow us to have live local morning personalities that are reflective of our rock fan’s lifestyle. They will provide continuity, personality, the left of center perspective that is uniquely Shaffee and the appropriate service elements for the morning audience like traffic, news sports and weather. The music intensive morning presentation begins Monday with the station going jockless all next week. Shaffee and Jefe are in Naples next week for Jefe’s wedding (Shaffee is his best man) and will return live the following week, Monday October 12th.
Bizarrely, Carothers emailed me a picture of Patrick Swayze but no comments at all. Did that mean he had “the time of my life”?
He and his partner Shaffee started two years ago. Their ratings weren’t bad but I guess in these budgetary times, unloading a salary means one less cost item on the ledger.
