When I got married in New York, I invited all of my family and friends from Minnesota (I grew up there and have a large extended family). We also scheduled a reception back in Minnesota for all the people who couldn't afford to go NY.

By doing this, we let people know they were welcome but they didn't have to come to NY to be nice to us (or drink for free).
