I was offended by the pee thing.
Thought it was a cheap attack by some Jewish writer/producer/director.
There is no doubt in my mind that this was discussed before filming, and it got clearance anyway. I feel like in the back of Larry David's mind there was a small feeling of "yeah, sticking it to Jesus"....he may not admit it, but he definitely felt proud that he was pissing on jesus.
I'll still watch the show. Funny shit. Guess im just used to the cheap shots against the Man who preached love........hilarious.

I kinda get where Ron is coming from. I saw it, and I wasn't like "outrage" offended, but I thought "Aw man, peeing on Jesus?"
And I didn't think they were looking to make fun of Christians, it was just a "hey wouldn't it be silly if some pee got on this picture...?"
I laughed my balls off at the end of the episode.

the scalping is a closer comparison because its not about Jesus or the picture, its about the people who practice religion to an extreme - the joke was on the family who was touring - Larry didn't come and laugh about pissing on the picture - he even regretted it, but didn't know how to fix it.
But if it were water from the sink, or apple juice, Larry wouldn't be embarrassed to say something. That's the whole joke...

I still find it funny. This last episode was to absurd, even for curb (which is a lot) but it did feature some great Seinfeld/Larry lines, etc.
the vehicular fellatio, the handicap ep - both damn funny as well as interesting.
Just as another example of Larry David making fun of the Jews, what about the Halloween episode of Curb when he had the Symphony play Wagner on that dudes lawn?.. He was offended by Wagner because Hitler played it when marching the Jews into the gas chambers.

It's the other way around. Yogi Berra pre-dates Yogi Bear.
From wikipedia:
He picked up his famous nickname from a friend, Bobby Hofman, who said he resembled a Hindu holy man (yogi) they had seen in a movie, whenever Berra sat around with arms and legs crossed waiting to bat, or while looking sad after a losing game.[1] Years later, the Hanna-Barbera cartoon character Yogi Bear was presumably named after Berra (the cartoon's creators denied it), something Berra did not appreciate after he started being periodically addressed as "Yogi Bear."

PUT ON THE HAT EARL!
Hiya buddays! Missed you guys. It's been a while. I'm studying in Italy this semester and haven't been able to comment as much.
I'm a big fan of Grayson, but his mouth will eventually be his downfall.
EliSnow

Can a man really comment on whether the term "whore" is offensive?
The reason this is a story is because Representative Grayson has been slashing and burning republicans with his mouth...so when he fucks up they are going to jump on it.
If the minority groups want to be treated as equals then they shouldn't have special rights. I don't care about the motive of the crime: I want the criminal punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I think hate crimes are just a measure to get a second shot at someone through federal law if they don't get convicted under state law.

Then why don't we just get rid of different degrees of murder if we don't want to take into account premeditation, etc. And what about conspiracy to commit a crime? If you hire a hitman to kill your wife, and he goes to the cops instead you get arrested. Yet no crime was committed.

Well, it's thinking and speaking of harming the President, but yeah, you're right.

Many states, if not most, have their own hate crime statutes on the books. You don't even need to go to the feds.

"Convicted of a crime I didn't even commit. Hah! Attempted murder? Now honestly, what is that? Do they give a Nobel prize for attempted chemistry? Do they?"

That's a different thing than hate crime.
No one is saying you can't take premediation into account. You can have a non-premeditated hate crime. You can have someone who hates gays, but hasn't planned the crime, and suddenly due to passions, he attacks a gay person. That's not premeditated.
A hate crime is not a different degree of a different crime. It's a separate crime altogether.
You can be charged and convicted on first degree murder and get charged and convicted on a separate count of a hate crime.
Also, hiring someone to kill your wife is a crime. You don't need to complete an act so that someone is hurt to commit a crime. It's similar to attempt crimes.

You're confusing a few different things - intent, motive and premeditation. The difference between hate crimes and most other crimes is that hate crimes take motive into account, where other crimes don't.
