I have had a guy(43 y.o., laid off a year ago) blowing my phone up for some work, he worked for me last year and about 50 hrs this YEAR. I have been working solo most all year. So I had a big job to do Weds. and called him to help. I picked him up and he stayed with me for the 6 hrs. Complaining about money probs and no work the whole time. I Offered him to work the next day (Thurs) and arranged to pick him up in the morn. I arrived on time and he had left me a note, STOOD UP.
WTF. He didnt even call which means I drove 15 miles out of the way to read his excuse.

IT seems like America is beginning to experience unemployment complacence?
Why wouldnt this guy rearrange his non paying schedule in order to take the opportunity at hand?

fuck it means I work by myself, and this is a hard game solo.
I realize that at this point I cant offer full time or even steady part time work. but damn money is money and i do pay well for the job. From 10 hr. to 25% of total production. If I was broke I would be all over it.

Maybe he got a better paying offer for the day?

Maybe he got a better paying offer for the day?

Maybe, he said he had to do something for his father.
The biggest problem I have is that he didn't call, allowing me to waste time and fuel.
It seems like in this day you wouldn't want to burn any bridges.

Yeah, not calling was dick.

that has always amazed me at how some people think it is ok not to show and not to call.
WTF I would never not show to work without calling first. that is employee 101

Yes, America is experiencing unemployment complacence because you had a bad experience with some asshole.

I'd fucking love to be working right now instead of my time being absolutely worthless. I am not complacent in my unemployment.

Did you pay the guy or front him some money?

We have had people that would give us the song and dance about money issues and we would front some money.

Then they would disappear for days. They had drug problems and would get loaded the minute they had some cash.

I wasn't trying to insult. i can sympathize I am self employed so that means I am only 2 steps away from unemployed at any given time.

good luck to you in your job hunt

I have been looking for work now for 4 months especially since saving has dried up and my retirement pay is shit. I'd just about kill for some work now.

But, it is nice not being in rush hour traffic and having a complete veg day.

well your situation obviously sucks and the fact that he did not call is very unprofessional, no matter the work field or relationship you may have.

I cannot say I am complacent but I can also no accept a job that pays me less than I was making 6 years ago before I owned a house and then had a kid. I simply cannot afford to cut down that much without giving up the house we have lived in for the past six years and is our home and for as long as UI will hold me over I am willing to accept it and supplement it any way I can. I started feeling that employers are taking advantage of desperate unemployed people who have been looking for long and now are forced to work the same type of work for much less pay. It is very scary.

You are correct, it seems that the talent pool is so large for any position that employers are driving down wages.

I wish you the best, having a child up's the ante like nothing else.
