Why is it that we can tolerate and even take admiration in our own smells, but if we smell somebody else's gas or steaming log, we gag ourselves in dry heaves.

There's a certain sense of "self" that works all the way from the molecules on the surface of our cells to our inability to make ourselves laugh by jabbing ourselves in the ribs. I believe this also applies to our own smells. The exception to this is our own bad breath, though...catch a whiff of that and it still grosses most people out.

I'm not sure "smell great" is the correct description. Perhaps "comforting" would be more accurate.

I belive another reason that other people's flatulence isn't as putrid as your own is because you don't know what they ate so subconsciously you can't "relate" to their farts physiologically.

The best is when you let out an instant classic in the car when it's all closed up (either for the cold or AC) and park for a while. When you get back in, it's like you never left.

Smell usually depends of the food you intake .. junk or bad food gives bad smell and healthy food gives no smell.
