...except you can't blue stainless steel. Blueing is actually a chemically controlled oxidization of the metal. And stainless don't cooperate with it.

ohh, ok.. besides taking the entire gun apart.. sand spray painting the metal parts.. is there another option?

I'm not sure. I believe stainless steel is stainless to the core, and it may not take paint too well. But I am decidedly not a metallurgist. Is this for some sort of dramatic production where you wouldn't be allowed to use a real gun?
The Marlin 336 is a very common gun that is manufactured to this day:

While the lever on the 336 is simpler than that on the gun you are looking for, the rest of the gun is fairly similar. Maybe it would be easier to find a replica of the 336? You could get get a real version of the blued model for 300-400 bucks and chop it down like the one in your picture. I bought my 336 specifically for the coming zombie apocalypse; it is definitely a zombie gun.

Yeah, I remember reading about this before but had completely forgotten. I think I actually read that thread in 2006 when it was posted. The process is not blueing, but the end result should do for Mike's needs.

You should find a machine shop locally, It should be pretty easy to make.
Cut off the carabiner shaped piece, bend a new piece to shape, weld on.
It is steel yes?
