There is no perfect politician out there or one that we agree with every single issue out there. Is there 1 reason that will prevent you from voting for a person?

For me anyone regardless of party affiliation who supports open borders and amnesty or pandering to illegal immigration they wont get my vote

I guess I'm your polar opposite. For me, it's anyone that insinuates that all problems can be traced back to illegal immigrants.

I have two hot button issues. First if the candidate is pro life he/she can suck it. Keep your hands and gov't away from my body and my choice.

If they are anti-legalization of marijuana they can suck it for the same reason.

Tyhere are a lot of politicians I think are worth voting for simply because they are slick enough to get people to debate and vote contrary to their own interests. Like when they get the middle class to support tax cuts for the rich, even though the middle class will have to make up the difference.....

I never watched the whole video, just read about it and accepted that Joe was an ass.
Having watched it, I am confused at how this was a big deal.

Joe claimed(lied) that he was going to buy a business with revenue of 250, 270 or 280.
Obama told him that his marginal tax rate for over 250 would go up 3%. So, Joe's taxes would go up an astonishing 0, 600, or 900 dollars respectively. WOW!
And then Obama explained that the plan actually helps the American dream, by allowing people to save more money; so they can buy their small business sooner.

I don't see how this spiraled into such a story.

I mean it seemed like a non-issue. Obama told him that for every $10K over $250K he would have to pay an additional $300 in taxes. Not exactly a game changer.
Also, Obama explained to him that if Obama's plan had been in place earlier it would have helped Joe achieve his "american dream" sooner.
Sorry, I just see the interaction as a win for Obama. But, I guess the liberal media spin turned it into something it was not.

Yes, he was changing the tax rate for over $250K from 36% to 39%. An increase of 3%, or $30 for every $1000. Not a giant increase, especially when you consider it is only for money over $250K.
For a large part of our history we have had 70-90% income tax brackets. So, while Republicans like to say that high tax rates smother economic growth, it is a LIE!
The data in fact supports that a high tax rate creates growth, not the other way around.
I am not claiming that it does, merely that the correlation between a high tax rate and stunting economic growth is a LIE too many people buy.

Well, you are also thinking individual taxed and what Joe was talking about is business tax. That does make a difference in the bottom line. Also, I agree the Repubs over inflate the tax woes.

I think he was talking about his personal income tax as a small business owner. Depending on how you structure your small business you may pay personal taxes instead of the business paying taxes on your income.
Either way, it was a perfect example of a lower to middle class person thinking that the tax rate would effect him. When it would not. Unfortunately, too many people like to think they are wealthy because they can lease, rent, finance or mortgage things. That is not wealth.

If the tax rate goes up to 39.5% That means the rich will find more ways to shelter their money. Its the middle class thats going to pay

So, a rich person isn't already using every available tax shelter? They are waiting until the marginal tax rate goes up 3%. Yeah, those are smart rich people.
I know that is the Fox news quick answer, but it is idiotic.
Raise the tax rate to 90%. Let the rich "hide" their money. Then the IRS can seize all their assets and redistribute them. Now that is a plan.

Wealthy people already get away with a low capital gains rate. Increase the capital gain rate back to equal with the income rate.

Are you a disgruntled ex employee of Newscorp? Rich people want to hide and hold onto as much as their money as they can whether the rate goes up 3 percentage points or 40 pts

I know. So, your post makes no sense.
You said that if the tax rate goes up rich people will hide their money. But, they are already hiding their money, so how does raising the tax rate change that?

Everyone should be sheltering their income in every way possible to avoid being unnecessary taxes. The tax code is built that way to incentivize certain behavior; buying a house, long term investment, IRAs, 401Ks, etc.

And, if your statement was true, shouldn't rich people be pushing for more taxes. So, that only the poor wage earners would be caught paying it.

It is a 3% marginal tax rate increase. Not a 3% increase, a big difference.
