Drunk people are funny, especially when they are inches away from death.

How many drunk people have died like this? I'm sure she's far from the first. How hard would it be to install guard rails across the entire platform that lowers itself once the train comes to a standstill?

Or, have weight sensors on the tracks that sense when something heavier than 80 pounds is there, and automatically alerts the train conductor.

I like this. I'm thinking we should install these mythical protection rails along every paved road to prevent pedestrians from getting mowed down, since that happens way more often. Of course it would be a little more cost-effective to attach the weight-sensing protection rails around each car, so if a car gets near a pedestrian, the rail shoots up in between them to protect the person.

we all have done something really stupid drunk, at least once in our lives. Your reaction just seemed extra harsh and hateful on a person who we know nothing of.

It was all over the news here, too. And a track maintenance woman got one, too. She saw the chick and radioed to the driver to hit the emergency brake. I'm impressed that those things can stop so quickly.

Not every, certainly all the subway stations and the 20-30 most crowded train stations. As a percentage of the total cost for building the stations, it's not that much.

Alternatively, maybe develop a technology that forces the train to stop at the exact same place every time, it shouldn't be too difficult with modern technology. So now you would only have to build a solid railing with gaps for where the doors are. That way, the drunks can just lean on the railing and don't fall.
