Destroys everything but wont touch Islam in fears of terrorism.

Once again big media / Hollywood caves to the powers that be in this world. He'll blow up everything, desecrate everything, but wont touch Islam.

Hope you're not surprised. The islamic cult is off limits for Hollywood and allah forbid its shown in a negative light.

The Sum of All Fears was markedly changed to replace the original muslim terrorists with nazis. While 24 has had a few seasons where muslims were the enemy they've gone out of their way to soften their image.

I like how people are surprised when other people try not to insult islam.

The guy didn't feel like being killed. It's a shitty blockbuster, not a political piece. There's no reason to die over that.

The extremist fringe are a bunch of crybabies, they threw a temper tantrum when a schoolteacher named a teddy bear Mohammed. Who hates teddybears?

Boo. The director and the movie are both pieces of shit.

Too harsh?
He made Godzilla, so I think not.

These guys are just trying to make as profitable a movie as possible, so it's in no way a cop out for them to exclude overly incendiary material.

Like when Dunkin Donuts pulled that Rachel Ray ad because she was wearing a Palestinian looking scarf, the commercial became ineffective because noone was thinking donuts, they were thinking scarf.

I saw 2012, no religious buildings or symbols of any denomination were shown being destroyed. And a negative referance is made to the Taliban blowing up giant Bhudda statues in Afghanistan.

I didn't see the movie, but in the commercials they show the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil as well as what looks like the dome of Saint Peter's Basilica in Vatican City being destroyed.

Yeah, I was wondering how realme could have missed all of that if he saw the film. I will never see this pile of shit but even from the trailers it's pretty obvious that the Vatican is getting destroyed.

I have no explination for this, I was 100% wrong and totally forgot about that. The catholic destruction is somewhat dilluted by the secular destruction, and it doesn't change my initial argument.

While 24 has had a few seasons where muslims were the enemy they've gone out of their way to soften their image.

Each year where extremist muslims have been the villains, they have shown that there are muslims on our side. They never "softened" the image -- that's the way it's been since season 2. In fact, extremist muslims were one of the main villains in season 6.

What a ridiculous statement. There's no first amendment that applies to Christians, Jews, atheists, Buddhists, corporations, bars, laundromats, etc. in the manner you mean.

The First Amendment only applies to the US federal and state governments.

But if someone were to decapitate another human in this country, they would be subject to murder charges. So, it's not like they would get away with it.

there is nothing equivalent to
our "first amendment"
in the islamic world

is that better?

Nope. Because there's no equivalent to our First Amendment in many countries regardless of the predominant religion of those countries.

Moreover, the whole Islamic cartoon controversy occurred in Denmark. The cartoonist wasn't punished by the government there, and any decapitation or other actions against the journalist or the newspaper there, would have been covered by Denmark's other laws. Your post essentially assumes that the only thing protecting anyone worldwide from making cartoons about Islam are First Amendment-type restrictions on Islamic governments. And that's ridiculous.

Neither of those are that terribly important to Christianity. Both are Catholic symbols; not Christian symbols. If the Church of the Holy Sepulchre was shown being destroyed it might draw the same ire. However, Mecca is something that has no equal in any Abrahamic religion. I don't see the problem in not showing it; it'd be akin to an Islamic filmmaker making a movie that had a part celebrating the destruction of the World Trade Center towers. People in America would get all asshurt over it just the same as Muslims get all asshurt showing the destruction of their most holy site.

Much ado about nothing, especially considering it's a silly movie playing on the premise of creating fears for lower middle class suburban white America.

I think some Catholics would think differently.

I happen to think it makes the film makers pussies, but whatever.

eh, I don't see the equal. Islam is holy to all the different variations. Catholicism's monuments to divinity aren't venerated as much so by Protestants and vice versa. Closest thing really is the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, but it isn't really talked about in the same ways as Mecca -- unfortunately. Though a devout atheist, if you will, I'd love to visit both Mecca and the Church.

They'd be wrong.

The Vatican is important to Catholics, but for very different reasons than why Mecca is important to Muslims. Mecca is essentially literally the exact source of the origin of their faith. Catholicism did not originate from the Vatican or Rome.
