Again, I agree that they're fun and I love seeing everyone.
I'm just saying I can't go in good conscience and I'll be elsewhere in the city that night.
If Hitler threw the greatest Christmas parties every year but then started exterminating people I wouldn't say "Who cares who is throwing the party? It's a great time!"
Just my feelings.
You just compared justjon to hitler.
I'm framing you up. It will be my underdog collection.
I took the first picture for your collection :

That is horse hockey.
Sorry, Bri...but that's nonsense. Do you really think we wouldn't have put something together if he didn't like to us over a month ago?
I don't know the details. What I do know is that Jon secured a good sized joint (bigger than most .net parties, although I was not at the Xmas one last year) for a good price in NYC when every day in December, most large bars are booked for Xmas parties. Which, by the way, are making a big comeback this year as opposed to last year's cutting down.
I don't know if someone else could have booked this - I know I couldn't, and I know people who own bars. It's not easy during the holiday season.
We should just be glad we'll have a place to meet up and have some good times and listen to marc and hammer claim they know more about the Real World than .... hmmm... where on the UES?

9pm till they kick us out
at The Yard (formerly Porky's NYC) - http://porkysnyc.com/
55 W 21st Street, by the corner of 6th Ave in NYC
This year's drink special is $35 for all you can drink Top Shelf from 9pm-12am. This includes any any beers they carry as well as the liquor. Buying a bracelet is not mandatory, but you do get access to the "VIP Area" in the back of the bar (I was told it fits up to 100 ppl, but may get tight with that many people back there) and can skip any lines that may be outside the bar when you arrive. If you do not buy a bracelet, you will not have access to that area.
Looking forward to seeing you all there!

yes but YOU are putting people in a position to chose because of YOUR silly reasons.
Your reasons make little sense to anyone BUT you, so you expect people to think and feel the way you do. You usually see the brighter side of life and live for happiness and balance. Why are you throwing other people's balance off like this?

And I did have a place back when I announced the date. We had worked out most of the details, then they told me they wanted $25,000. And then I had to start looking all over again. As said by Furtherman, the economy has picked up and there are alot more X-Mas parties this year, which made it harder to secure a place.

If you're driving you shouldn't be drinking anyway. Especially $35 dollars worth.
But most will have a drink anyway... 2 maybe 3 over the course of the night? That should cost you around $12-$20. Unless you drink the expensive stuff.
Last bar I went to in the city, I had two beers and it cost me 12 bucks. Throw in the shot I had, it went to 20. 35 for whatever you want is a pretty damn good deal.

Good for you then. But I was one of a group of people he basically shoved out of the way, in addition to others he barked at and was rude to so they'd move. Again, he was not affiliated with the party or its hosts; he had no official function that night. He was just another guest.

Wow, this thing is just as interesting as ever. While I respect the nature of what Gvac is saying and doing, I implement a different strategy. First, who would want to miss JustJon not only taking credit for Mikeyboy's party, but trying to parlay it into a date with a 21 year old bartender who he ends up scaring the life out of?? WHO? Not me, bc it was FANTASTIC. And I had nothing to do with said bartender believing Jon was a bisexual father of two trying to cheat on his "second relationship". She was looking hard for the ring marks on his hand the whole night and kept coming back to our group with updates on his advances that night. (OK, three times but great none-the-less.)
Still, the point is well made and I understand it completely. I'm sure he's twittered about ur disdain quite often already, but hey, you can simply just reach out to him by multiple mean on the left.
Bottom line here, if it's getting harder to book a party (which is bullshit) bc I booked one in a day last month for my company in NYC, do it earlier not later. Sorry Jon, you're simply a liar and always have excuses. If you want out of the gig, just pass the shit on to plenty here who can easily and willingly take it on.
In the end, I'll probably hit both but I'm on the fence here with this interesting concept. Missy's point is quite on, but there are times we need to step up and make a needed point. Jon always has excuses, hates his "own" site and simply needs to move on bc his heart isn't in it.

Jon's point about being "harder to book a party" is a money thing, not an availability thing. Your company probably has plenty of dough to throw around for a party, where Jon doesn't.

Oh shut UP. If we had this at D&B's, from NJ and Long Island would lose their mind, and people would yell and scream that Jon was doing this just to be close to his place.
If we did this at Jillians in Farmingdale, people would complain.

Why not just pick a nice sized place in the city that could handle it and tell everyone to show up there. They wouldnt get mad at us for spending money

Yes, but 100 individual drinkers cannot arrange to have what is essentially an open bar for $35 whereas a person arranging a deal with a bar before hand for their group can.

its not an open bar for 35 bucks. Its a 3 hour wristband thing. its not like its special, bars do it all the time, alot of them do it for 25.
Generally is what happens, enough people think its a good deal and so many show up that drinks become slow, they generally limit you to one drink at a time, and most likely, you will be lucky to get 35 bucks worth of drinks in those 3 hours. If you do, ok maybe you saved a few bucks but is it worth all the hastle? I prob wouldnt drink that much cause im driving, so the wrist band isnt a deal for me. And its not gonna be limited to us, so anyone who shows up can get one and get into the "VIP" area. So its going to be very very crowded.
You coulda got the same thing at any bar probably. Hell you could probably call karavis and have them, if not already, open the basement bar and they wouldnt charge you a dime to do it. Alot of places could hold it on a whim. Thats why the complaints. Its being sold as something it doesnt really seem to be

and just a general point, the wristband deal that bars offer isnt the steal you think it is. Most of the time, most people dont get the money's worth of drinks. If you were gettin that great a deal bars wouldnt do it. They do it cause it makes them more cash. If it was just to get people to show and was a great deal, they would do it on wednesday or something. they do it on busy days cause they know they are robbing most people on the deal, not the other way around

You really are an idiot. First off, the point was most don't really care about the venue, it's the timing of getting it locked in. I wouldn't expect the man who actually runs away from parties left and right bc he's afraid to be in the same room as some here to get that. Your diatribe on where the event is held is moot. I've made pretty much all r/f holiday parties since the start, D&B up to Blondies and couldn't care less. If you fail to see the reasoning behind Gvac's point you're simply blind, deaf or dumb. Yet bc it's Gvac I understand why you'd do so as fear has a way of messing with someone's ability to function.
As for that last line, ha! HA! I think it's absolutely priceless coming from you. Focus on your coming child, not the sad one inside Matty. Bottom line (once again) is that it has nothing to do with the venue. Read that slowly a few times Human Matty.

we dont step up cause jon tells us he got it, thats why it takes so long. And no, what is the mistake people make with "Manhattan" prices?
A rum and coke will be 6 bucks, 8 if you get it with capt or something. So say you get 4 capt and cokes, thats 32 bucks. Most people tip 1 dollar a drink, thats 36 dollars. You broke even.
But have you ever been to a decently busy bar in manhattan on a fri/sat night? You have to wait 15 minutes sometimes to get a drink. its ok cause you are buying them, so you get as many as you want.
But with wristbands, you can only get 1 drink each time, to prevent gettin drinks free for people who didnt pay. With the extra crowd, it will take you so long to get back that you will be lucky to get 4 drinks in 3 hours, esp if you go outside to hang or smoke. Its really never a good deal, thats why they do them, and thats why they do them on friday and saturday night. To overcrowd the bar and make more then they would have for those few hours.

if you can get there early enough to get a seat at the bar. If you are standing they make you move to serve other people, so you cant get back as fast

Fez won't be there. Ron will be out front smoking. The VIP are won't be an issue with that.

Snoogans, I actually talked to Jon while he was planning the party and brought up the same concern re: the bracelets, because of what happened at MacFaddens that one year. The bar told him there will be 4 bartenders assigned to that area where everyone with the bracelets will be, so it seems they're at least trying to provide coverage for people with bracelets.

Also, if he did the job I'd want it would have nothing to do with the angle you speak of. I think I'm pretty clear in my musings on the subject. I could give two shits if someone fights or argues here, in fact I encourage a little heart and fire on the site.
I kiss Jon's ass? I kiss Mikey's ass? What is wrong with you? Does making up stuff to try and prove your point just come across that naturally to you?

i appreciate that but that area holds 100. They arent limiting wrist bands, just people in that area. And the front bar will be just as slammed. I appreciate the addressing of it but its still a big concern.
Again its not problem to me, i wont be gettin the braclet regardless, so I dont mind. Im just bringing up what may be a concern so that they can be discussed

I'm not sure what your precedent is. We don't usually have special areas. The one year when there was actually a VIP area (thanks to Po), Ron & Fez weren't back there. Ron sometimes finds a table in the back, but he's always been accessible.

that was my point about just showing up. if you spend money, bars take care of you. you dont need to set it up, just go to one and after awhile they will hook you up, especially a big group. That was more an aside to this though

That's not what I was saying. I think the VIP area is stupid, but that's just something the bar set up, it had nothing to do with Jon. Buying a bracelet to get in the VIP area is dumb. As for getting drinks, if the bar is serious about providing the proper number of bartenders, your ability to get a drink won't be impacted too greatly. I was speaking only of the worst case scenario, which is what occurred at McFadden's 3 years ago when they were not staffed properly to handle the crowds. I can't blame McFadden's too much because they weren't expecting the crowd we brought in (and frankly neither were we). Opie promoted it on the air during the Homeless Shopping Spree and we had 300+ people show up.

Well, it's not completely the point. The bars can actually afford for a person to "make money" on the deal, because of the mark-up on drinks. For some people they won't make as much profit as they will for others, but the trade-off is the guaranteed money. For instance, some folks who may have otherwise only gotten 2-3 drinks, end up getting 7 to make their money back. The bar doesn't make as much profit percentage wise, but more money is coming in. I've definitely gotten my money's worth at wristband events before.

see thats the thing, even if the bar is properly staffed, its still smarter not to get the bracelet. Then you can buy multiple drinks and avoid trips to the bar.
also, if we get the bracelet, and spend 9-12 buying 'free' drinks, do you think, at 1am, the bartenders will hook you up as well as the guy who's been laying out cash on the bar all night?

If you really want to get your money's worth, it can be done. if it's really crowded just drink quickly and stay at the bar. That's a lot less fun because you don't get to socialize.
