I think what you meant to say is, why is semen so nasty when it comes into contact with water?

Semen is a combination of prostatic fluids, sperm (a small fraction), and seminal fluid. It has a protein called seminogelin that causes it to gel; when it comes into contact with vaginal fluid it keeps it from just running back out again. The gooey-er it is, the more likely one is to successfully fertilize an egg.

Drop a load in water and see what happens...it clumps up and gels almost immediately. Good luck cleaning that up from the bathtub after a shower jerk without applying at least a little elbow grease. Also, unless you're using KY Jelly to beat off with, the lube that you're using is probably not water soluble either. If it was, it wouldn't work well in the shower. So it all goes together to make a mess. A small mess, though; don't let having to clean up after yourself keep you from a hobby you enjoy.
