A dermatologist prescribed aclovate cream for me last year (http://www.drugs.com/cdi/aclovate-cream.html) for my insanely dry skin around my nose. As the prescription ran out, so did my health insurance. I know you aren't a dermatologist but I was hoping you knew if there is an identical over-the-counter drug.

Thanks

Aclovate, a synthetic steroid medication of the cortisone family, is spread on the skin to relieve certain types of itchy rashes, including psoriasis. It's a pretty powerful steroid cream, and there is no identical over the counter medication. The closest thing you can find to it is 1% hydrocortisone cream, which you can buy just about anywhere. It's certainly worth a try; strong steroid creams can cause facial redness and even scarring if used chronically. Hydrocortisone is weak enough that it's generally felt to be safe using on the face.

let me know if this helps.

I actually went to the dr and he ended up giving me free samples of something called protopic. Very small drops from a very small sample cured my ills within 3 days.

I would strongly recommend this stuff.

Ok, cool! Protopic is "tacrolimus" and is indicated for moderate to severe "atopic dermatitis" (allergic skin rash).

That shit costs $122.06 for a 30gm tube. It's a T Cell inhibitor and immunosuppressant. It's usually used to prevent organ rejection in HEART TRANSPLANT patients, so it's heavy-duty medication. Doesn't quite fit in with your goal of an over the counter medication similar to aclovate, but I'm glad it worked for you.
