I haven't said this all year, so I can honestly tell you:
THIS IS THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR.
The tone is just right. It feels totally real and, yet it's 100% entertaining. There are belly laughs, somber moments, lighthearted chuckles, sincere tender moments... and everything in between.
I was worried that my expectations were too high because THANK YOU FOR SMOKING is my favorite movie... and I thought that perhaps I'd be comparing this movie to that one. This was not the case. UITA stands on it's own merits as a brilliant little movie.
All the relationships feel real.
The plot, such as it is, is about a man who lives his life on the road... and enjoys the fact that his lifestyle prevents him from getting too close to anybody. No ties... no strings... no pressure. Eventually, he does meet somebody... and his little world starts to open up.
I thought it was fanfuckingtastico.
I hope you all find some time to see it, and then come back here to get some pie and talk about it.

I enjoyed it too. Not my favorite of the year, but really good. Clooney is amazing.

Seems chickflicky to me.
without ruining it, the movie definitely reaches a crossroads towards the end of the movie that could go in that very direction and it does not.
I absolutely loved it. It packed way more of an emotional punch than I was expecting. All the firings just hit me hard, maybe cuz of what I went through or where the country is right now. Every one was so genuine.
The first time I saw Anna Kendrick (in Rocket Science which I highly recommend) I predicted she would win an Oscar one day. I don't know if it will be this movie, but she is definitely a great young actress and should get nominated for this.
Vera Farmiga, who I've never enjoyed before this, had such chemistry in this and really knocked her role out of the park too. Clooney is just a movie star. Just great.
Jason Reitman is a damn good director. All of those aerial shots of the cities, the clouds during the credits, the crispness of the sequence of Ryan packing in the beginning. Def a must see.

I thought the same thing before I saw it but I really enjoyed it. It wasn't chickflicky at all. Both Vera Farmiga and Clooney were fantastic.

For anybody who is having trouble finding a theater that's playing this movie... it's in limited release right now. It goes wide on Xmas day.
Enjoy!
Saw this one too on the flight back home. Clooney is great and I totally related to his character about liking to be on the road and never settling down. There are some great lines about being an experienced traveler. And Anna Kendrick was great too. She reminds me of every young, fresh-out-of-college co-worker I've worked with.

I thought the movie dealt with an interesting and soul sucking job (does this job really exist?), but goddammit that short little anna kendrick was great to look at.
