That's a mandatory line thanks to campaign finance reform.
I know, I see everybody doing it. I didn't mean to attack McMahon as if she's the only one doing it.
It's just ridiculous. Clearly, the intent of that was to clarify those commercials that a politician was behind and those that they weren't behind but were attackign others, etc.
But the line isn't necessary when it's the politician themselves who are the ones talking in the commercial.

If I remember right, the Prime Directive was based upon Vulcan history with the Klingons. Essentially, the Prime Directive came about because the Vulcans approached the Klingons with tech before they were ready for it.
And then chaos ensued.
The Prime Directive (non-interference) I think was inspired by all of those UFO sightings that occurred after we started testing nukes in the late 1940s.

The Prime Directive (non-interference) I think was inspired by all of those UFO sightings that occurred after we started testing nukes in the late 1940s.
From Wikipedia
In real life, the creation of the Prime Directive is generally credited to Gene L. Coon, although there is some contention as to whether science fiction writer Theodore Sturgeon, who wrote of the Prime Directive in an unused script for the original series, actually came up with it first. (In fact, the Prime Directive appears fully-formed as much as two decades earlier in Robert A. Heinlein's 1948 novel Space Cadet, which describes a military organization very similar to Star Trek's Starfleet). The Prime Directive closely mirrors the zoo hypothesis explanation for the Fermi paradox. In an interview with Gene Roddenberry in a 1991 edition of 'The Humanist' magazine, he implied it also had its roots in his belief that Christian Missionaries were interfering with other cultures.[citation needed]
