Have you ever bought a car on ebay? Should I do it? How can I make sure it's legit?

My dad bought one and it was relatively painless. He bought a car for parts so the details weren't as important. You need to be as specific as possible when you ask them questions. Try to talk to them over the phone. Try not to buy a car that is too far away from where you live. In the event that they weren't truthful you can void your agreement and file a grievance with ebay. If the car is far away you will possibly be inclined to deal with the deficiencies. Some sellers rely on that. If you do not have far to go it isn't as big of deal to tell them to get fucked.

Here's the thing.......
Most times they request a money order but sailor made me think of another thing. DO NOT PAY PRIOR. If they require paypal, tell them you will use their computer after you are satisfied. Anybody who requires money at end of auction is shady.

My ex bought a 73 autostick VW bug off of e-bay and had it transported here. Not bad, she paid a little on the high side for it but it was a nice bug.
From my understanding it is really hit or miss, like most other things.

My dad has bought a bunch of old cadilacs off ebay.
He always talks to the person on the phone, makes sure he get their personal phone number, then will reverse look up the person.
Also he gets the person to fax or scan the ownership and will match up the persons name.
Ebay is a pretty safe place to do transactions, and if you pay by paypal, which I reccomend.
They insure your money if you get stiffed.
Also, looking at the persons ebay history helps. If they have 0 transactions make sure you get all the info personally from the guy
