Not only politically naive (the money that both Band Aid and Live Aid raked in pretty much just went into the pockets of warlords and dictators, since the famine in Africa was more of a political problem than a natural disaster), but culturally insensitive as well. They don't give a fark that it's Christmas in Ethiopia, Bob. There are very few Christians over there.
