I just saw a report on AICN (http://www.aintitcool.com/node/43544) that Sam Mendes, director of American Beauty, Jarhead and other movies, has signed on to direct the next James Bond flick.
Interesting move. No word yet (that I am aware of) as to storyline.

I believe they will dropping the Quantum storyline for a separate adventure, although the plan is to revisit it in a later movie.
I liked the Quantum storyline but the last film was just atrociously directed. The action scenes were so jumbled and filled with sloppy quick cuts that I never had any idea what was going on. That opening car chase was maybe the worst action scene I have ever had. I had no idea who was in what car, where they were on the road or what they were doing. It was like random shots of speeding cars.

I am digging the direction they have went with the last 2 Bond films. Daniel Craig does a great job. They need to get a movin on the next movie - I dont like waiting 3-5 years for each movie.

I love Craig, but I didn't like Quantum. Casino Royale was great.

i love Daniel Craig too as bond. that man is a good action fighter. he is def one of the most physical James Bonds. i can watch casino royale over and over again. i hope this new movie follows that lead.

Good point. I don't remember too much about this movie other than the bad action.

Quantum works best when you watch it as soon as Casino Royal ends, because it's the second part of the story, not a stand alone film. With that, it becomes one, albeit long, awesome Bond film.

i really wasnt going with the race angle darlin. he was the first actor that popped in my mind, next to norm mcdonald and bill paxton.

A couple of days ago, I heard that the next bond movie was on hold as there was money problems with MGM. Today, I find out that they're fast-tracking the movie. I believe that Mendes is a very good pick for director for this film. I just hope the writers come up with a 'Casino Royale'-quality script.

Next James Bond Film Permanently Canceled (http://www.cinematical.com/2010/07/06/next-james-bond-film-permanently-canceled/)
AICN is reporting that apparently all development on the latest James Bond film has been stopped and the project is dead -- this coming after an announcement back in April that the production was on indefinite hold. If the studio can't get a Bond film directed by Sam Mendes and written by Frost/Nixon scribe Peter Morgan off the ground, then things seem very dire indeed. That would make two huge films guaranteed to make money -- three if you factor in that The Hobbit is going to be told in two parts -- that the company appears to be incapable of making.
In a statement to The UK Daily Mirror production company EON shared this disheartening tidbit, "We do not know when development will resume and cannot comment further at this stage." The Mirror goes on to add that it could be years before Bond is back on the big screen.

This is bizarre: I had thought that the two Daniel Craig movies since the reboot had done pretty well, and looked to be guaranteed big bucks.
You'd think, given that, that MGM could get the cash together, even if they are in the shitter. They must really be fucked.

It seems to be a combination of money troubles and everpresent litigation with the ambigious Ian Flemming estates.

The answer is unclear. Veteran actress Judi Dench, who took over the role of M in the Pierce Brosnan films and continued into the Daniel Craig films, might return for Bond 24. However, due to her age and the time it will take the producers and creators to release the twenty-fourth Bond film, there is a chance that Dench will not return as M and another actor or actress will take her place.

From what I've read it's all MGM money problems. It's plaguing the Hobbit as well.

Supervillains Gather, Dare To Ask The Question: Is James Bond Dead? (http://www.npr.org/blogs/monkeysee/2010/11/18/131426010/supervillains-gather-dare-to-ask-the-question-is-james-bond-dead?sc=fb&cc=fp)
On today's Morning Edition, NPR's Robert Smith reports on a recent meeting of supervillains assembled to ponder the possible death of James Bond as a result of the financial struggles at 007's longtime studio, MGM. And they did it with Bond suspended over a cage containing a hungry MGM lion

This was a great, solid Bond film. Daniel Craig has really come into the role and they expanded on the MI6 and Bond's past perfectly, even setting up future movies to have some of the more familiar Bond roles and exposition.
First class action and Silva, the bad guy, was a first rate Bond villian.

It sucked and Silva was just a ripoff of Ledgers Joker
These Bonds are supposed to be realistic right? and that why they stink. I really hate the omnipotent villain who can plan everything except how to accomplish their main goal.
And did anyone else think they were setting Ralph Feines up to be the bad guy? That was the only pleasant surprise

And I just know they cast the new Q after watching Sherlock and Im sure they begged Connery to come back for that bit at the end
And the bit at the end was a bit to A-team for me

I think you might be in the minority in this one. It's already the highest grossing Bond - and British film - ever. It went back to #1 this past week. Not many movies do that these days after dropping from the top spot.
The new Q wasn't in Sherlock.
As for Silva, his main goal... he accomplished it. He may not have lived to see it actually happen, but what he wanted to be done, was done.

The first Sean Connery Bond movies weren't silly, but the Roger Moore Bonds got progressively campier, sort of bottoming out in Bond quite literally being dressed as a clown in "Octopussy".

I just saw it and I agree with the above assessment. Although at 2 hours, 23 minutes it was about a half hour too long.
I like how they wrapped it up, Bond's past his gone. His family house is destroyed, he lost his apartment, his mother figure is dead, they even blew-up his Aston Martin. I like the new M, he's tough but understands how things are and the new Q is brilliant and quirky enough for comic relief.
I agree that they set up future movies so they will be stand-alone films. Bond will take on the bad guys again and with less inner-reflection.
