Today Franklyn was talking aboot how he was less than proud to be an American while travelling (and sucking dick) in Europe.
If you travel abroad, are you a proud American?
An Ugly American?
Or do you just try to blend in with the crowd?

It depends are your definition of "ugly" American.
I've just tried to be a person.
Seemed to work.

I have been in Japan for 3 years. I am proud to be an American, but I get irritated for responding to the crimes of other Americans or white foreigners. All I can do is represent myself as well as possible and hope for the best.
Why should care that Franklyn is ashamed? That is his lame insecurity.

I've been overseas and never had a problem because I was American. I'll have more trouble in the states because of who I voted for or what city I grew up in than anywhere else because of assholes who, even living in the greatest country in the world, have nothing better to do than complain. My experience has been people asking about culture, food and tradition and learning. In other words, having a good time . You'll find those assholes all over the planet, but don't draw attention to yourself by going that route. We all have more in common than those who would bring up our supposed reputation.
I was overseas for Election Day and Inauguration Day and all the expats in Doha kept asking me about what I thought of Obama getting elected: some because they hated Bush so much, others for the historical significance of the moment.
I keep a low profile regardless where I am because I hate people in general. I'm a proud American overseas -- though I often have to apologize to the locals because of the behavior of asshole American tourists.

You know why this is? Because Franklyn hangs out with poseur half
fags like himself where ever he goes, and it's Zuperkool with that ilk to
America bash.
My response when I encounter this is to respond that I'm American
and there's nothing wrong with me. How stupid can Franklyn be? His story is
more American than most I know, and he still accepts the premise that
America is all Lord Jezos.
You don't think there are Frenchmen the Pariseans aren't embarrassed about? Most of Holland is filled with hicks, and the same is true in England.
One last thing: you don't think any of those European wanna bes wouldn't move to New York if they could? In a fucking second they would.
Dicks. I hate that shit.

i'm proud to be an american and i don't hide it when i'm overseas.
i don't go the ugly american route, but i con't conform to european standards and wear loafers with jeans. i just wont do it. so if wearing converse makes me stand out, so be it.

dated an american girl who was in awe of the english culture. found an english man on a dating site, went over and married him. after 3 years she made him move back to the states. 3 years after that she gave him an ultimatum, divorce me or agree to date other people.
she dates, he stays home and drinks beer every night

America is all Lord Jezos.
I travel constantly and I have never once encountered any anti American anything. Normally people are happy you are there, are glad to accommodate you in their hotels and restaurants, and are proud to show off their country to you. If I had to pick out something it would be this chick from Norway that we hung out with a bit in Tokyo. She wasn't so much against America as she was against anyone who had a job and worked for a living, all she wanted to do was just travel the globe and be one with nature.
If you go someplace and act like an asshole then yeah, people will be angry at you, but if you act like a civilized tourist in a foreign country then nothing happens.
