The next trend in TV: Zombies. MTV will be airing a show loosely based on Dawn Of The Dead. AMC is working with Frank Darabont to bring The Walking Dead to primetime. CBS tried a couple years ago with a pilot but it didn't get picked up. If either one is a hit, look for a broadcast network to try again.

Do you mean fictional zombie movies or actual, real zombies.
Because I hate the real ones.

I hate that MTV is involved.
Frank Darabont is pretty good but getting together w/ a commercial POS like MTV would ruin it.
I'd like it more if they avoided linking it to Romero's stuff because that should be saved for movies.
TV could never do that justice.

Don't worry, Darabont's "Walking Dead" will be on AMC.

That's somewhat good news.
But now I fear Romero's work in the hands of MTV.
I'm sure it'll about Beyonce and Shakira and all that awfulness.
They are actually scarier than zombies ever were.

Please re-read my very short post to see that you have nothing to fear.

Does loosely mean " walking dead that eat peolple " in a generic zombie kinda way or does it mean " based in the world that Romero created " meaning it's expanding on some of his characters or settings ?
That's what I'm wondering.
If they just make some jackass zombie flick like " Gangs Of the Dead " or some other completely ridiculous movie than I won't worry.
Although I am a sucker for zombie flicks in general.
I recently rewatched " Children Of The Living Dead " that was loosely based on Romero's stuff and it was one of the worst POS ever.
Loosely was basing it in Pennsylvania and using " Of The Dead ".
It even had Tom Savini.

The first episode of web series Universal Dead, featuring DB Sweeney, Doug Jones, and Gary Graham, has been posted, and it's pretty damn cool. Watching will make you hunger for more.
Here's the thumbnail sketch:
Planet Earth is ravaged by a strange disease that turns people into mindless murderers. As civilization struggles to survive, a small team of US Navy SEALs must protect a doctor from the Center for Disease Control on a mission to evaluate the claims of an erratic scientist who may have discovered the secret to mankind's salvation.
Follow the story as it unfolds on the Universal Dead website (http://www.universaldead.com/). The next episode will go up around June 4.

Does this mean that we are going to have a wave of douchey hipsters championing a "zombie lifestyle" like they did with pirates in the early 2000's?

MTV already has a show where soulless zombies wander around mumbling incoherently terrorizing anyone with brains.

It means "based on the acclaimed ongoing comic book series by Robert Kirkman."

Zombieland was originally conceived and pitched as a weekly tv series. The "zombie kill of the week" that we saw in the movie was a hold-over from the tv show concept.
