Nicholas Lea is the actor that played Alex Krycek on the Xfiles. In an early episode of the series he had a minor role as some guy that gets killed by an alien then 2 years later they brought him back.

Jerry Orbach was in an episode of Law & Order as a lawyer before he joined the cast as a detective. S. Epatha Merkerson was also in an episode of L&O playing a mother (or something similar) before she joined the cast as a lieutenant.

Interesting thing about the episode where Merkerson played a mom whose son was killed is that the bad guy was the guy that eventually played Lieutenant Fancy on NYPD Blue.
I wish they'd show the original L&Os.
They've started to go back a little further on TNT because I've seen a few episodes recently w/ Chris Noth and Jerry Orbach.

Mark Lenard played two different characters on the original Star Trek TV series. He was first cast in a 1966 episode as a Romulan commander, and then returned in 1967 to play Sarek, Spock's father.

Kind of a twist on this is that The Wire featured a Baltimore homicide detective named Jay Landsman from the beginning, and later introduced a character named Lt. Dennis Mello, played by...a former Baltimore homicide detective named Jay Landsman.

I've tried telling this to several people who watched and loved the show, but no one seemed to notice this, which is baffling. And infuriating, because there are several people out there who think I'm full of shit. I hath been vindicated.

They had a lot of the first two season shows during one of the holiday marathons last month. They even had one with Lewis Black, and he looked.... YOUNG!

and then played both the jailed father and his own hippie brother Oscar in Arrested Development.
Tambor was cashing a lot of checks.
And, of course, because they're cousins, identical cousins.

Ya, Lou is showing his age. He was also in an episode of Homicide (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0604357/) a few years later. I LOVE his comedy and would hate to see him leave that craft but he's also a very decent dramatic actor and a shame he hasn't got more exposure.

Harold Gould played several different roles on The Golden Girls before he became a regular character on the show. I wonder if anyone noticed before it was in syndication? Most of these shows weren't made to be watched in an all day marathon. But I do.
