My friend got Power of Attorney over her grandmother 10 years ago. Since then, her mother destroyed the sheet that showed she had power of attorney. Since it has been 10 years she does not recall who gave her this power of Attorney. Is there anyway she can get it without much knowledge on how the ehck she got it the first time around?

If the grandmother is still willing, it isn`t too hard to just do it agian. mostly just a form to fill out.

The problem with that, and we may do that as a last resort is the grandmother lives with the insane mother so it will be hard for her to get it signed. Also the Grandmother lives upstate and she ahs no car so it will be hard to do.

shouldn't the city have that information if it was notorized?

In the State of NY (assuming thats where you are given your profile) a Power of Attorney needs to be notarized by someone state sanctioned but it is never filed anywhere at either the municipal, county or state level when its initiated. The only time it is provided to a government authority is if during the proceeds distribution of the principal (your friend's grandmother) include real property who's title is transfered to someone else either prior or after their death in which case its the county clerks office.

Hope that helps.
