Im going to assume that the Hon Sen Reid meant what is commonly refered to as ebonics when he said negro dialect and not the clicks and whistles of African tribesmen. I would submit that not only is talking this way ignorant but saying Pres Obama could be elected b/c he doesnt talk that way is too. A wealthy politican and leader in the Senate should IMO have more of a pulse on the American people and not make such idiotic statements.

Now Ebonics is a term that means, black phonetics. The term Negro dialect and Ebonics have the same meaning. Essentially it comes down to Ebony or Negro, which depending on what language you speak, both mean black.

Has to be Negro Dialect, as Ebonics was recently (in the last ten years) promoted by black people as an official language in schools in California.

Just wait 20 years and they will be equally offensive. We're just waiting on Reverend Al to tell us what the official term is for this decade.

Nothing much, just a funny picture I found while sitting in the centre of my chesterfield which is a keen brown colour. Was a slow day for me listening to zedzed top, rolling my loonies and drinking my double double Timmies. Maybe for dinner tonight I'll make a pot of KD and wash it down with a Molson's or a pop with smarties for a desert. Afterwards I have to remember to plug in my blockheater if I'm going to make it to The Bay tomorrow to buy a new tuque.

I guess Reid meant Americans would be scared to elect someone like 50Cent...but Obama is a "safe black man" to elect...that sounds like a racist comment to me IMO

Yes, but he's a Democrat so that makes it OK.

I honestly refer to people who talk that way as speaking all "ghetto". I used to work for a woman supervisor in Brooklyn and whenever a certain other black women would come up and visit her at her desk, she would adopt that ghetto affect and everyone would hear it and look at each other. All other times she was very prim and proper with her language. I also used to work with this other black woman who spoke perfectly fine with no accent at all, and when she was visited or receoved a certain caller, would adopt a Jamaican accent and use their terminology. It was bizarre. It made everyone wonder which was their "real" speaking style.

I don't really understand why this is offense to black people. If anything it should be offensive to whites. The premise of his statement is that racist white people from middle America are more likely to vote for a guy like Obama than for a jive-talkin' ganja man with dreads in his hair. Isn't that more of a negative statement towards whites than blacks?

"Negro" = "colored".

Okay, so you're saying that the offense is only connected to the term "negro" and not to the premise of his statement?

Yes, but he's a Democrat so that makes it OK.

imagine if Trent Lott said something like this.
the media and liberals would be clamoring for him to resign and be exiled.

anytime anyone is expected to resign or step down, i know immediately that whatever he "did" is complete bullshit.

That's been the primary focus of the controversy, yes. If he had said "Obama spoke the King's english" there might not have been a problem.

He resigned for saying Strom Thurmond would have made a great President. Yeah, he ran as a segregationalist but this was simply a case of someone trying to pay a compliment to a friend and colleague.

I dont know what this idiot meant to say, but if by "negro dialect" he meant ebonics, well both terms are incorrect. The correct term is Ignorance.
