The only way I see Massachusetts electing a Republican is that this would be considered to be a "protest election" as he would only finish out Kennedy's term until January 3, 2013. Then they'd elect another Democrat.

Save Maine, Republicans are an extinct species in New England.

I'd love to see a Republican win there but I just don't think it will happen. All of the delegation is there for life.

Call me crazy, but I'd love to see former Governor John Rowland run for a Senate seat. He did more to clean up CT and make it prosperous than anybody else. Sure he fucked up with the cottage incident and some sweatheart deals. But he went to jail -- unlike Chris Dodd who did the same things and yet gets to walk away scot-free and with his nice Senate pension.

Does anyone else get as disgusted as I do over this shit? This is the running of the country we're talking about and the media treats it like it's the Super Bowl. They wind us all up to get us to pick one of these two parties ( Which are basically the same), without pointing out the bullshit in the process. F Politics.
And for the record there have been plenty of stories about the same thing going on with the other side. But it's the Globe, so how would you expect them to slant this. Absolutely despicable.

Just read this, so one supporter in my neck of the woods comments they should shove a curling iron up her ass, aluding to a case she refused to prosecute, and now this dope speaks for the whole campaigne. Haha hilarious.

Isn't it odd that the unbiased globe didn't bother to find out who the "Brown supporter" that made the statement was ?
It could just as easily be a Coakly supported trying to make Republicans look bad.

Sure Brown should be outraged by what the person said, but he can't be held responsible for every word spoken by every one of his supporters.

I also like how they imply that Brown heard the remark and replied with "We can do this" as if he would think he could really shove a curling iron up someone's ass.

I stopped reading the globe about 30 years ago because of crap reporting just like this.

brown is going to crush her in the election, for several reasons.

a) the media made this big fucking deal over this seat, basically saying it will either pass or kill the healthcare bill. you could be a blue blood democrat, but if you think this bill is bad, you are going to vote for the other guy. it only makes common sense.

b) you know your campaign is bad when you need the help of the president to come vouch for you. coakley had not 1, but 2 presidents come help campaign for her. oof.

I'll admit I don't know much about the breakdown of the MA electorate, but I'm looking at the AP returns, and 221 precincts in Boston have yet to report....I assume Coakley needs to win that by 20% or so to offset the rest of the state?

Why the hell did they pick this broad...they could have ran Teddy's corpse and he'd have won by at least 10%.

I didn't bother looking at that race until about a week ago...and it seems as though the Coakley campaign didn't start until then either.

Everyone who reads her blog will be a li'l smarter than before you started.

Now onto demonizing the other side. The Democrats had better get out the hammer and stop worrying about following the prima donna Senate rules crafted by Robert Byrd over the centuries and start ramming the healthcare bill through and to be more like the Republicans during the Cheney regime in getting the important issues passed with a simple majority. I think it's better for the country to give us a real choice between what the Obama Democrats stand for and whatever the Republicans decide to be for in 2010.

But the WH and congressional majority have had the hammer for many months now and have been unable to proceed because they’re too busy fighting and dealing among themselves! Ironically, if they had been just a little bit bi-partisan in their approach this MA election would’ve been largely irrelevant. The supermajority turns out was fragile and made of glass. I agree with you on the Democrats being incompetent in managing this but I have to disagree with the motivations that led to it. The 60 vote caucus was held together with chewing gum and handed out gov't pork spending/political favors which the right-wing media and Congressional Republicans masterfully played into a winning issue. I have to say there was a seemingly real attempt at bi-partisianship in Max Baucus' committee and, from what I read at the time, behind the scenes at the White House but the Republicans made a political judgement they'd be better off stonewalling (they have better discipline in their group) and it looks like they were right. I think Obama's mistake was to let the Democratic leadership in Congress legislate in public which is always an ugly process to the general public who, I increasingly believe, would rather be told what to think rather than noodle things out for themselves.

I have argued that the country will be worse off if these first steps at injecting some economic rationality into the health care system fail and I still believe that 100% but I guess there is a different thread for that argument.

Ah well, I can take comfort in the fact that I'll probably be dead before the worst consequences from this happen. :bye:

He wouldn't be much of a board character if he didn't.

Then worry about getting your own senator. First and foremost he's gotta be concerned about keeping massachusetts happy, not alabamans.

Scott Brown's Brother Arrested With Arsenal After
Impersonating Officer and Commandeering Boat

The brother of former Sen. Scott Brown (R-MA) is facing multiple charge for impersonating an officer after police in Connecticut found him with an arsenal of weapons, and witness said that he commandeered a boat.

According to a statement from the Connecticut State Police on Thursday, residents reported a man wearing military-style clothing and carrying a gun while walking on Sea View Drive in Old Lyme. The caller said that the man was seen in a "police type vehicle" equipped with antennas and "hide-away" lights."

Bruce W. Browne -- who spells his name differently than his brother -- told officers responding to the call that he was the owner of the vehicle, and he admitted to wearing battle dress uniform (BDU) pants and carry a 9mm weapon.

Inside of the vehicle, officers located three 9mm handguns, two sets of handcuffs, 12 fully-loaded magazines and over 200 rounds of ammunition. Browne also had law enforcement gear, including a tactical bullet-proof vest with the word "POLICE" on the front and back and a metal TSA badge.

"Further investigation revealed that Browne commandeered a boat earlier today by identifying himself as a 'Police/Coast Guard' official," the police statement said, adding that he stopped at least three vessels to check their boat registrations.

Browne had IDs from when he worked for the TSA and Coast Guard, but the Connecticut State Police determined that he was no longer affiliated with those agencies.
