don't know about 5.11 clothing and that link isn't working for me but as a climber I will say it is probably a climbing reference. 5.11 is reasonably difficult climbing, but given that I can occasionally climb 5.11 it's not outrageous. Most beginners probably can do like 5.6 - 5.8 depending on whereabouts and scale goes up to 5.15 but once you hit 5.10 the gradations get finer because you have 5.10a-5.10d 5.11a-5.11d etc. so difference between 5.10 and 5.11 way bigger than difference between 5.5 and 5.6
