The whole "I enjoy the bad singers" thing escapes me. It always has. From day one... I thought this show focused too much on the goofballs.
I could see if maaaybe... in & out of commercial breaks.... they featured one bad singer. But, spending 6 weeks watching good singers mixed in with mediocre singers and terrible singers just doesn't seem like compelling television.

I watched season one.
And I watched last season.
I will watch this season too but not until we're well into Hollywood.

Why dont we star a new 2011 thread?

I find it funny that this season they finally say they are in NJ when they never did before. They have auditioned in Jersey I think 2 or 3 other times and always said NY (as everyone seems to do). I thought the reason they were doing this is the explosion on NJ shows since last season especially Jersey Shore. They proved me right, within the 1st 40 minutes they were doing the fist pumping, showing the Jersey Shore and people on the boardwalk. They even made a sign that looked the the Jersey Shore sign from MTV but instead put Idol in it.

Why does the fattest, sloppy tits females always thing they are the pretty ones. The girl who was showing how to tease her hair thought she had a nice body and sounded like she thought she had a body like JLo because JLo isnt a stick figure either! She was a fat mess, jiggling all around!

Why cant they ever talk to a hot girl and let her be what represents Jersey? We get snooki look a likes nothing more!

I gave up on this show a while back because it just got stale to me, but I decided to check this out with the new judges just to see how they were. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. Tyler was pretty funny at times (the paint chips comment was great) and even though Lopez didn't add much, she's so damn gorgeous she could sit there and not say a word and that would be fine with me.

It did seem like they moved away from making this all about the bad performances like they have in the past and actually showed more of the good ones. I have to say the surprise performance for me was that heavy chick with the stars on her breasts. Her promo just screamed that she was going to suck really bad, but she was actually pretty good. When Jennifer went up to her to give her a hug, Steven said to Randy "You're looking down, aren't you" and gave him a fist bump. Was he referring to looking at Jennifer's ass or the contestant's?

I have to agree.

I don't think that the level-of-talent on the show has taken a hit as much as a few other factors. The judges still heavily favor women who sing like Whitney Houston and men who sing like Garth Brooks. It is the second decade of the twentieth century and they still are searching for tastes that are more in tune with the 1990s. I am not even taking Ron's argument that modern pop music is garbage. I accept that they are looking for pop acts and not rock or rap acts. I understand the rubric they are trying to fulfill with the contest and I understand that they are not going to perform music that I am going to be excited to hear, but their finalists are mostly garbage.

Adam Lambert was the best person they had in the past three seasons and the southerners (who make up a majority of the children who vote) wanted nothing to do with an obvious homosexual. Last season's finalists were rubbish, too.

When people like Opie and Anthony question the effectiveness of "marketing research" in TV shows, American Idol is like the poster program endorsing the practice. Americans would rather vote against the person they dislike then vote for the person they like. At the end of America's vote, you end up with king or queen of bland pop music.

They are really dragging the top 24 selection out?! Im a little surprised some who didnt make it. But what Im most surprised about is how much I love Steven Tyler and JLO as judges. Randy is Randy and anyone could probably do what he does because he really doesnt bring much to the show. I sometimes miss Simons blunt honesty but not as much because I realized he actually takes away from the show in some areas. For whatever it is he brings he takes away more. If thats not the case then they producers, editors and creative team are doing a great job making the season into a great one especially after how bad last year was. There is a lot of talent this year!

As far as American Idol contestants go, that guidette is a lousy singer.

I haven't really enjoyed this year's contestants a whole lot. Outside of Heejun, I am not terribly interested so far.

Skylar Lane and Phillip Phillips will probably be the final two with Phillip winning, but he stinks. Skylar Lane looks like what Snooki would look like if she fornicated with a pig.

Reed Grim, Creighton Fraiser, and Jen Hirsch will be the contestants whose eliminations will disappoint the judges.

Why, specifically, was Deandre not profiled during the auditions of the competition? I never completely understand how the producers expect to drum up interest in the show when the spend entirely too much time following that cowboy who didn't make the top 25.

I hate that I have over-analysed this.

The R&B singer, Marcus Canty, was saved the second time because the judges dead locked leaving the fans votes to decide the result.

The Idol, et al, voting process is incredibly stupid favoring people with the most freetime and the most resourceful viewers votes mattering the most. You can download robodialers, alter ip addresses on the official web site, and text if you belong to their subscriber's cell service (Which AT&T favors rural areas because urban users tend to get Cricket, Boost, Virgin, Metro, or USCellular services)

Philips is the "White Guy With Guitar (TM)" they have a tendency to win and the judges kiss their asses throughout the competition.

Hollie is a good-looking white girl. The main voter base are preteen girls and close-to-menopausal woman. They can't abide a female contestant that doesn't participate in a small town bake sale or deer hunt.

Jessica Sanchez has two strike against her:
1) She isn't white.
2) She is already complaining about vocal pain. After Lauren Alaina almost pulled out of the final for the same reason, I guarantee the producers would rather get rid of the girl who may not be able to sing in the final than keep her.

I prefer the "So You Think You Can Dance/X Factor" elimination method. It allows the contestants who are getting mildly fluffed up by prank voting, teeny bopper fancy, and ethno-centrism to get pointed off the show.

I dont know if I believe any of that. Jessica is from S.D. and was eliminated but has stuck around only because the judges used their 1 save on her. How many people in the UK or the Philippines really care about American Idol and vote? Even if there was thousands I doubt that would change the voting too much. 90 million votes were counted last week.

I hope Jessica wins and she is a newcomer. Shes only 17 and has never been signed. Yes she has a youtube page with lots of videos of her singing but that doesn't make her a professional.
