From January 22 last year:

If there is one "socialist" law on the book within one year, I'll donate a $100 to the GOP.

Now... what to buy with that $100 I'm gonna save... hmmmm...

Lucky for him that health care "reform" fell apart only days before his bet came due. We got close and things are getting worse day by day but we still have a few days left before all of our freedoms are destroyed and America is ruined.

kinda funny, because my inlaws left communist romania in 1987 just before it collapsed. 20+ years later, my FIL says that Obama and his crew are very much heading in that same direction.

so yes, it does come to find you.

The Gov't making itself the majority stockholder of GM and giving UAW majority control of Chrysler oughta count for at least $50.

Obama has done virtually nothing in a year.

Yesterday, Anthony was complaining that Obama is ruining America and complaining that he did nothing in his first year in office. How can people complain about both?

HAHA! Well played Jezo, I'm glad you brought this up. Although the "socialism fear" that was sweeping the uneducated last year has died down, its lingering effects still isn't lost on some I see.

I would have saved $100 even if that dolt from Massachusetts won, and the health care bill would have gone through.

So this $100 will come in handy for the bar crawl! Hammer, you've got some shots coming your way.

Obama is not a socialist per se. He lives in the lap of luxury in a huge mansion. goes on trips to Hawaii, has his own jet and helicopter. sends his kids to the best private school, and makes a $400,000 a year salary

The Politburo always lived well as they crushed the population under them with rules they did not have to adhere to.

What's even better is that I made this same bet with two other people last year. My brother most likely won't pay up, but my other friend now owes me $100. Although getting money from his tight conservative wallet won't be easy.

That has as much to do with socialism as tariffs, corporate welfare, government subsidizes and tax breaks do with a free market.

Socialism inspired Communism so without people like Obama we never would have had the USSR.

This would mean a bipartisanship would have to happen.
When either party stops toting the party line for the common good of mankind. It will be a cold day in hell my friend.

Nationalizing major industries is about as socialist as you can get. The whole $100 bet should be paid.

When someone doesn't even understand the bet they're taking, it's easier just to make the point. There wasn't a 'socialist' law, in his mind, passed in the past year. I never would have paid anything.

Which industries exactly have been nationalized?

There are different perceptions of "nationalization" but the federal government overtook GM this made the federal government majority owner and shareholder

yes that is true but the question was which industries have been nationilized.

I could buy a Taco Bell franchise but that doesn't meen I now run the fast food industry.

from wikipedia (say what you want of the source):

Some economists consider the U.S. government's actions with regards to Citigroup to have been a partial nationalization.[22] Proposal made that banks like Citigroup be brought under a conservatorship model similar to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, that some of their "good assets" be dropped into newly created "good bank" subsidiaries (presumably under new management), and the remaining "bad assets" be left to be managed under the supervision of a conservatorship structure.[21] The U.S. government's actions with regard to General Motors in replacing the CEO with a government approved CEO is likewise being considered as nationalization. [23][24] On June 1, 2009, General Motors filed for bankruptcy, with the United States investing up to $50 billion and taking 60% ownership in the company. President Obama stated that the nationalization was temporary, saying, "We are acting as reluctant shareholders because that is the only way to help GM succeed" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nationalization#United_States)

I agree with you and WF if you are pointing out that the Federal government has nationilized certain corporations that have been deemed "too big to fail".

I do however, take exception to any idiot claiming we live in a socialist country or have a socialist president that is nationilizing entire industries.

Nobody claimed that. I noted in reply to another post that nationalizing major industries is about as Socialist as you can get. Reading comprehension is a key life tool. No need to be ignorantly calling people names (this is a classy message board ).

What major industries have been nationalized?
Not what corporations some now view as being nationalized; corporations are not industries.

The wing nuts are worried over the propping up of corporations that were on the brink of failure. When they over look what they do and get away with. On top of that the wing nuts on the Supreme Court just gave the corporations the right to unlimited political backed financing. They will be running things soon.
