What causes me to keep getting thrush??? I went to my Dr he gave me some oral and pill antibiotics said he thought it was thrush.....Never have had it before but now it keeps coming back every other month or so..It starts with burning when eating even the slightest bit of spice or salt..Then It is a white line in side my mouth from front to back, even with where my teeth would join...and the skin peels it hurts and goes away??? Its awful and kinda scary I get in right inside the corners also (inside) Thanks DR Steve Your Pal Jug

Do you find yourself craving nothing but broth lately? Have a neglected dog running around? Lost a fair bit of weight? TV plays nothing but Brady Bunch re-runs?

I went to my Dr he gave me some oral
Hope you wore a rubber while your doc was giving you oral.

Hmmm....thrush usually causes a white exudate on the tongue or mucus membranes of the mouth; it's caused by a yeast called "candida" and is most often seen in babies or people on antibiotics or with depressed immune systems (e.g., chronic steroid users).

What you're describing could be a thing called "trenchmouth" or "vincent angina" which is a bacterial infection of the mouth. it also could be a thing called aphthous stomatitis (canker sores), or even a viral infection of the mucus membranes of the mouth. The point being, it could be a lot of things, and you may need to see a specialist to diagnose this. Go see your doctor when it's at its worst and let him or her do a swab to try to diagnose it. If there are blisters, it could be a virus, if there are ulcers, it could be aphthous stomatitis. There are other things it could be as well.

Sorry my last post in here was so vague; let me know what it turns out to be, though.

your pal,

steve

Just bustin balls, glad you saw the humor :)

Being serious, thrush (and whatever you might have going on in your mouth) isn't pleasant. Tough not to aggravate it. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Hey buddy-

just based on your description and to add to Dr. Steve it could be a number of things...

pseudomembranous candidiasis (thrush)- you would need antifungals (diflucan and mycelex troches) to fight that

Pemphigus/lichen planus/other autoimmune disorders- topical steroids would treat these. tough to diagnose, sometimes there is no cure, just treating the outbreaks

A white line on the inside of your cheek could also be something benign called "linea alba" it is caused by repeated trauma of your cheek from your teeth (along the bite line). this tissue can be removed easily, but exposes some newer/sensitive skin.

FWIW...all of these situations are treatable! Follow up with your dentist, get a diagnosis and go from there...don't scare yourself b/c all of these are much less concerning than the "big C"

I have a weird taste in my mouth that won't go away even if I drink water, eat, or brush my teeth. Is it possible that it's ketosis, even though I am eating at least 1300 cals a day with at least half my calories in carbs each time?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

It sucks that Dr. Steve is on sabbatical...I only work in the mouth hole, so I'll do my best to answer best I can...

Taste alteration (dysgeusia) has a number of different causes, so a much more thorough history would be needed. Medications, endocrine (diabetes/ketosis), periodontal/dental concerns could all be the cause. This could be a combination of things, or it could be one cause...sorry for the vague response, more info would be needed...

Good luck-

...I thought thrush was a hoof disease that hoved animals contracted by standing in a soupy mixture of stool, urine, and water.
