It sounds like if anything, they might attack a neighboring state, but I doubt it. It's all posturing. Why would they launch an attack before the nuke is ready? Once it's on the launchpad, then we can get scared.

They'll probably execute the protesters on trial come the 11th as a show of force, but it's an internal struggle. Iran has bigger problems within it's own country than to make a foolish attack on another country.

yeah, for iran to just straight up attack somebody would be ballsy. they know that it wont go away without retaliation not just from the attacked, but any other rational country in the world.

then they can claim that the world is attacking islam, which will rile up the other sand folk, and well, we can see where this will go.

It's always been the government's position that the protests were funded and instigated by external forces and governments. Doing something to the protesters could therefore fall into what they are describing.

It's strange for him to give a specific date. He may just be trying to get Obama to ease up on some sanctions. If Obama quietly eases some sanctions he could then say his policy of negotiations averted a crisis (of course, once you get rolled like that, it'll happen again and again).

This comment from the first article is telling:
The deployment comes after Obama's attempts to emphasise diplomacy over confrontation in dealing with Iran – a contrast to the Bush administration's approach – have failed to persuade Tehran to open its nuclear installations to international controls.

I don't disagree that we need to be prepared for him, but his type are generally big talkers who talk crazy, but in the end realize don't follow up on their grandiose threats, because they have more to worry about from the US, the West and Israel than those countries have to worry about from them.

I don’t think anyone’s gonna be nuking anyone else over there any time soon. If Israel had wanted to it could've blown away it's enemies probably 10 times over, forty years ago. However, what might happen is that Israel may determine that sanctions or other efforts to curtail Iran’s nuke ambitions are not moving fast enough.

Israel will then likely use conventional forces to destroy what they can of Iran’s capability, with the full support of western intelligence (wink wink). In the process they will take out Iran air defenses and most if not all of their air force, as well as any other conventional forces they can while they’re at it. It will be a huge airstrike on Israel’s part, and they may lose many in the process. Israel will avoid civilian targets if at all possible. Iran will be weakened militarily big time.

Iran will be unable to mount little if any counterattack, and no one will come to their aid in reality. Others in the Mideast as well as China and Russia will howl, but the outrage will die down because Israel has no desire to conquer or destroy Iran, and Israel’s “measured response” to threats against their existence will probably, in the end, be deemed equitable. And many in the world, including Iran neighbors, will probably be relieved, actually.

Hopefully all of this, or any similar action, can be avoided.

i was thinkin about this on the crapper this morning.

there is no way that iran would put a nuke topper in that missle.
i think the nuke factor is something every country fears. its that invisible line that NOBODY wants to cross.

we did in WWII and it was an "oh shit" response. obviously, we bombed the slants only to help rebuild them so they can make us nice tv's and such. but again, i think that every leader, especially those wackos, knows that should they use a nuke, that there will be a heavy price to pay not only from us, but from the rest of the world.

however... that being said.... should one of them choose to cross that line, i prefer NOT to be the recipient of that.

Well, and if they do show a real nuke, it becomes pretty much impossible for just about any other nation to support them. I would imagine that Russia would drop them, and I can't see China sticking around.

I see this as purely internal Iranian politics. Ahmadinejad is floating this, hoping for an intemperate response from either the US or (preferably for his goals) Israel. Then he can point to that and say "See? They're against us. So obviously all those protests in the street are a trick of the CIA and/or Mossad."

So far, it looks like no one's taking the bait.

i agree. which is why i dont think any nation really wants to use a nuke. that pretty much seals their fate for any sort of support.
i also agree with the fact that he could be simply floating some balloons to see what happens.

i would also hate to see us call this as chest thumping and him really set off a nuke.

Short answer Yes long answer No w/ a but.

I ran is DESPARET to be the victim and is doing everything to provoke an attack. That being said, if they can't provoke they will use hamas so they can use the shroud of plausable deniability.

I'm allways amused / stunned how they seek to force gods hand. Cause all the turmoil you want , he doesn't need nor seek the assistance of states to fullfill his time line. A sad hiccup wrecking a nice place that we were supposed to get a couple more millinia from.....you can never trust a tenant.

Apparently, they have gone to the next step and labeled dissenters "enemies of God."

Just because you're alive doesn't mean it didn't end. We're, sadly, the left behind.

Is that better or worse than being "enemies of the Easter Bunny?"
