View Full Version : Stewart on O'Reilly Factor again
Stewart vs O'reilly Part 1 (http://tv.yahoo.com/blog/things-get-heated-between-bill-oreilly-and-jon-stewart--967)
I never watch O'Reilly because I can't stand how he talks down to everyone. How come he can call all Daily Show watchers stoned slackers but no one says that Fox News watchers are all complete douchebags. I take great offense to that.
I'm more conservative then O'Reilly could ever be plus I don't drink or smoke and I enjoy the Daily Show everyday.

He does seem kind of done, especially since Glenn Beck has arrived. Beck seems to be Fox News' big star now.

This might be inappropriate or very appropriate.
O'Reilly only went half retard. Beck went full retard.

Just watched whole show. It is fucking embarrassing that a comedian is a better political commentator than one of the highest rated political commentators.
O'Reilly's denial of Fox's agenda is priceless. Every Fox fan accepts that Fox is right leaning to balance the perceived left lean of all the other media in the US. But, O'Reilly denies it.
The best, THE BEST, part of the interview was O'Reilly calling Beck " basically everyman."
Sadly, some people will believe that you are an independent if you keep repeating it.

It really is highly amusing that so many people are irked by the very existence of entertainers such as Beck and O'Reilly.

Not really. Being a political commentator is not an esteemed position that requires a specialist; there's no reason why a comedian should be less skilled at it than someone who hosted a television tabloid for years.

I am not irked that Beck is an entertainer. I am irked that people will call him a legitimate commentator. A man speaking for those with no voice. "Basically every man."
Beck is playing a character. He got a role as a right wing lunatic on a TV show. No different than Michael C Hall playing a serial killer. On TV they are horrible monsters, in real life, who knows maybe Beck is a serial killer and Michael C Hall is an unbiased guy speaking his mind like you find in every bar in middle America, crying when he gets upset about America's future and the socialist takeover.

Except far too many people don't see The O'Reilly Factor as TV tabloid. Far too many people are unaware that The O'Reilly Factor, while on the Fox News, is not a news show.
Stewart is a smart guy, obviously. So, is O'Reilly. Unfortunately, many viewers, of both shows, don't see the gimmick.

I'll do a poll. In the meantime. At the top of the Op-ed page in the newspaper does it have a giant emblem saying "NEWS!" and not mention "Op-ed?" At the bottom of O'Reilly's show does it have a giant swirling icon saying "NEWS?" Does it say "Op-ed" anywhere?
Do you think the show is opinion or news? Do you think Fox tries to blur the line?
How is an opinion show fair and balanced? O'Reilly told Stewart that he was "fair and balanced." That is the exact opposite of opinion.

It's pretty easy to see that shows like O'Reilly talk about the news through the lens of the personality's opinion, while a "News Show" purports to present a relatively straight-forward telling of the days stories. Obviously how straight-forward a newscaster and/or newswriter present the story is open for interpretation, but you must see a difference between a news show and a show like O'Reilly.

But, Stewart's focus should be on comedy first, political analysis second. While, O'Reilly should be focused on only politically analysis. So, O'Reilly should be sharper. He was not.

The point is that you said people can't tell the difference. Yet you and I just agreed that we can, regardless of crawlers and claims and names of channels, etc etc. And, I would venture to say that most people on this board can too. So what good is a poll here gonna do?
Again, where and who are these rubes that you speak of? I've seen repeated claims here (by you and others) that people simply don't know what they're watching and hearing - they're misled and sucked in and basically stupid. Prove it.

From Fox NEWS(!!!!!) Bio of O'Reilly.
""Other interview news shows are guest-driven," says the pugnacious, broadcast journalist Bill O'Reilly. "The O'Reilly Factor is driven by me. I will not stand for spin. I look for guests who will stand up and verbally battle for what they believe in.""
"Having surpassed CNN's "Larry King Live" in 2001 as the number one cable news talk show, O'Reilly's signature "no spin zone" cuts through the rhetoric as he interviews the players who make the story newsworthy."
Never afraid to assert his opinions (wow, once!) on the news, O'Reilly's commitment to "cut through the clutter" has distinguished him from his peers.
The O'Reilly Factor also features issues from local markets that do not find the national spotlight on other newscasts.
"Television Week donned him one of the 10 most powerful in TV news in 2003 and 2004."
I guess they misspelled "opinion", N-E-W-S.
News, news, news, opinion, NEWS, NEWS, FAIR and BALANCED, opinion, NEWS, NEWS.
But, you are right. The country is full of geniuses. But we are fucked. Since, 44% believe that not only is Stewart a newscaster, but he is the best newscaster. Liberal fucking rubes.

You think the company is accidentally trying to blur the line or that the general public is smarter than the experts that tell them how to spin. You and your "basically everyman" friends are so smart.
What's next? Commercials don't work? Odd, I wonder why they use beautiful women in cheap beer commercials. The basic everyman knows that drinking cheap domestic beer doesn't get you super models. Yet every year they waste tens of millions of dollars on that crap. Silly marketers.

My opinion is that spin and marketing works. The best type of spin and marketing is when you don't know there is a spin or marketing tool used.
Fox is great at marketing and spin.
Except of course during the "NO SPIN ZONE!"
"You and your basically everyman friends are so smart", was more of a generalization. That you believe everyone can tell when they are being taken. A lot of rubes on the midway.

I do think he cares a lot about what he talks about, and I do think he has a genuine amount of admiration for America and it's founders. After all, only in America is it possibly for an alcoholic to become the second biggest name on TV.:smoke:
Regarding the FEMA camps, I only remember the show where he debunked the conspiracy. And if he did rail against FEMA camps, I imagine that a man like Beck could afford to have the lights on while he cries.
