View Full Version : Do the interviews get in the way of the show?

The interviews on the show that Ron conducts, anyone else feel like they get in the way of the overall plot of the show, such as Dave's sex stories, intern talk, and Fez's crying?

I find myself fast forwarding through them, they add nothing to the long term show storyline and just take up time, they seem to be more like filler that can be skipped to get back to the good stuff.

I like the break in tone they provide, it helps freshen up the show to have Ron talk to someone intelligently.

I agree. The interviews are interesting and Ron knows how to keep them fresh. Christ, he just interviewed the great Bill Withers. It's not like they only get scrubs in there.

Love the interviews. They are just the right length to not get boring.

The problem with the interviews is that they're all set up and cut to be re-run on RBIs, so it completely changes the tone of the show when someone comes in.

You don't have the dynamic of someone just coming in, hanging out and talking about a bunch of shit like on O&A, but then again, Ron & Fez has never really done that as a show.

I get why they have to do it during the Ron & Fez show, because that's prime time for guests to come through the SiriusXM studios, but does it effect the show a bit....yes.

That said, Ron's done some really good interviews.

I don't care for the interviews. I did love the Cheech and Chong interview though.

I think Ron really prides himself on his interviewing skills and likes meeting famous people. He therefore sets aside that time in the show to be serious. Also it builds his reputation as a talented interviewer and increases the odds that bigger and better guests will stop in.

I agree that he is one of the best interviewers around, his sessions with people are so much better than the standard cookie cutter stuff found almost everywhere else.

But that compared to Dave talking about his sex life and older stuff like Lilly pooping, it just can't match the core components of the show.

Because that's what the show has been all about all these years.

Admit it. This is just your latest attempt to get a reaction out of people.

Nope, like just yesterday, that Olympic guy came on, fast forward, or a couple weeks ago some football player came on, fast forward. None of that matters, its like a filler episode on a tv show, it's a nice extra but not needed. The interviews can all be considered extras now. Fez refuses to participate, Dave and Christanley stay silent in the other room, it's just Ron and some person who is there for a one shot. The interviews on RBI off on their own are fine but when they are in the middle of the show they can be skipped just like the ads to get back to the more important bits.

Vroom Vroom will last forever, some interview with a singer wont.

I'll take a short interview with the most obscure singer ever over Lily's insipid "vroom vroom" boasting.

I am not a big fan of their interviews as I think it interfers with the flow. I love when they talk, take calls and get smacked by the cow bell !

I do not listen on a regular basis now due to new work hours. When was the last time someone got hit my the bell?

variety is the spice of life, I like the way an interview will be sprung on us. like a quick left turn, we are hearing from someone in a unique Mr. B interview. And then the dick jokes and vrooom b.s. stories can continue. all things in moderation (and other cliche's).

Ron's interviews are great anyone can walk into the studio and he can make it entertaining. And it always makes me proud when a celeb compliments Ron on how refreshing and smart his questions are.

Nope, love them. I actually look forward to hearing the interviews with people I don't know/care about more than those that I do. Ron is a good interviewer, and many times it makes me inerested in something or someone that normally I wouldn't care about.

Keep 'em comin'!

If you are a mouth-breathing retard that is dumber than a box of hair, then yes, the interviews probably bother you. But don't fret. Dave and his redundant "humor" will be forced back to the forefront soon enough.

I was dumbfounded by the very question. Word for word they are some of the best radio on the show. People I never heard of and would never think are interesting make for some really great interviews. I Love them.

Who cares if it puts off another Dave sex story or Fez elevator story or something Hicks is pissed off about... they will get to them eventually.

It all depends on the subject. I'm a new relatively listener, and have been trying to catch up on the XM run (I'm in mid 2006 right now). The interviews that I've been running into of late have gone from one extreme to the other: interminable (Kristi Jacobson, barkeep Toot Shor's grandaughter (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0436836/)) to fascinating (Kevin Keating, 'Guliani Time (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473037/)').

Of course the interviews get in the way of the show! They totally take me out of the flow of things. I'm tired of hearing irrelevant, famous people, being interviewed on the show. Oh, and I'm tired of people kissing Ron's ass, claiming what a great interviewer he is. Enough already, you kiss ass fans. Here's how Ron's PRE-RECORDED interviews usually go....

Ron: You are great, everything you do is great, and you will always be great..

Hack Guest: Yes, yes I am!

All Ron does is kiss the other persons ass. Nothing interesting is asked. It's the same shit every time. Then, after the taped segment is played, Ron talks shit about the person he just interviewed. Because as we all know, Ron doesn't have the balls to say it to their face, like most radio people.

Anyway, the interviews have taken me out of the show, all together. I know you kiss ass fans love it. But trust me, there are many of us who hate it!

Proceed to kissing ass.......

Her voice was great...and utterly indistinguishable from a dozen or so girls that were on Idol last week.

Certainly not special enough to justify dedicating an hour of the show to her.

You really have no clue what good music is if you're comparing Trixie to those dumb kids on Idol.

And the interviews ARE part of the show.

The interviews get in the way of the show when Ron interviews people I don't like.

But they don't when he interviews someone I do like.

So, he should interview more people I like.

When he interviews that ocd, phobic, panicky, weirdo the show stops.

the interviews are great because ron is brilliant.

if it were just the standard garbage interview where all we learned about a movie star for instance is "it was great, a really great experience.. working with 'x' was great, they're really great.." then yes the interviews would suck a dick.

but thankfully ron is fantastic at his interviewing craft and has a true gift for making any random celeb interesting and compelling to listen to.

i'll dig this one up for a minute...

usually i say yes, but i really enjoyed the laurie anderson interview, and most recently brian wilson. ron was a generous interviewer and i think he managed to draw brian out a bit so we can hear what he's like. i thought it was interesting that his favorite song on the latest album is "you can't take that away from me"--it's so conventional, but his love for the song helped me appreciate it in a way. brian wilson is maybe especially interesting now, as his influence on contemporary music seems to be increasing. great job

Loved the Brian May interview, that was fascinating. Hated the Laurie Anderson interview, she's a pretentious bitch that nobody cares about outside of New Yawk Ci-tay. Ron should keep doing the interviews, because he's about the only one in the entire media who does real interviews. The people hyping stuff often take advantage of him, though, trying to suck up to him instead of giving real answers.

Would you rather hear 4 hours of what's freaking Fez out today? Most of the interviews are home runs. I especially like the ones when Ron meets people he's a real fan of. He doesn't come off as a dick head media type, he asks questions a fan wants to ask. There are a couple of egg farts now and then with the guests, but I'm sure someone likes them. He does a good job of getting a little bit of something for everyone.
