Boss saved Eli with that great catch.
Once again the running game ran through EVERYONE.
It was an important win we needed and got. Especially with the travel they had to do.
Now onto the most important game of the year (so far) with the Eeekals.
It's official, you're worse than Tskeet with McNabb on this Manning hate now. :wallbash:

And I didn't even say ANYTHING about those two horrible ints.

Win 21-3 to go to 9-4 after a crazy week on the road.
Yes, he's awful for throwing 2 pics leading to a grand total of 3 pts with one receiver out there still on the mend (Nicks). Oh yah sorry, he had Manningham for a few plays and Smith showed up for a catch and is obviously not fully healed either.
Manning should put it in the end zone more when your backs are being allowed to walk in. Hell, I know the likes of Bear Pascoe, Derek Hagan and lesser wrs should have instilled confidence. You're right, another awful loss chalked up to shitty Manning.
Thank God that pro bowler Boss saved his ass!

Eli finally beat the Vikings.....Eli finally beat the Vikings!!!! well, more accurately our defense beat the Vikings. I thought it was going to be one of those games for us in the early goings when Eli was throwing passes from Pick City, but then he remembered we have an awesome running game too. I think Eli was a little too excited in the 1st with both Nicks and Smith back on the field.....he was like a kid in a candy shop. Diehl played awesome in his first game back and shut Allen down completely. Pascoe and Boss were both beasts as usual, and i was glad to see Hagan getting some downs as well even though our receiving core is back.
Defense was awesome.....4 or 5 sacks, excellent plays from the corners and safety. its an impressive stat when your QB throws two picks in the 1st quarter and the opposing team finishes the game with only 3 points.
this is the time you want your team to be clicking so this was a big win.....Vikings helped out plenty but you never have to apologize for a win. Sunday vs. the Eagles is going to be epic.
p.s. that shoulda been a safety Tavaris!!!

I got their reasoning for not ruling it a safety, I was more interested in the lack of a sack credit there. I'm assuming it has something to do with the snap rulings?

yes but Smith on the field also it gave Nicks more space to work with. We have (HAD) three good receivers with Nicks, Smith and Manningham. (Boss has a good pair of hands too) So now we have 4 good receivers. Coverage was spread out, giving them good opportunities to make a catch.
Smith is a good receiver and his presence will be missed on the field. This might mean Nicks might be double covered now. And I hope Nicks is fully healed with his injury. If not......
It might be moot if our running game was the same as it was against Minn.
I hope we can run it right down Philly's throat.
oh yes...and NO turnovers. That would be nice wouldn't it?

I know I go off on Eli a lot. I kept my mouth shut these last few weeks, but I want to share something I read off of SI.com
It just re-enforces what I have been saying for a long time. He is not as good a QB as many others. He has 19 INTs this year and he has a below 90 passer rating. Average at best.
Here's part of the article.
"2. The Defensive Hogs are the heart and soul of the Giants. The Super Bowl XLII champion Giants remain one of the great anomalies in NFL history. They had little statistical business winning the Super Bowl.
Quarterback Eli Manning was a below-average passer that season, with a 73.9 rating while leading the league with 20 INTs. The defense overall was fairly ineffective, surrendering 21.9 PPG -- 17th in the NFL that year and the second most points surrendered a Super Bowl champion. The Giants went 10-6, tied for the worst record ever by a Super Bowl champion. And they certainly had no shot to beat the 16-0 Patriots.
But they did.
And the 2007 Giants won the Super Bowl because they were very, very good in one area: they fielded the best defensive front in football, as ranked by our Defensive Hog Index. And in particular, the 2007 Giants got after the passer, forcing opponents into sacks and picks on 11.8 percent of drop backs. Only the Chargers were better that year. The Defensive Hogs proved their worth against the Patriots in the Super Bowl, making life miserable for record-setting Patriots passer Tom Brady and holding the highest-scoring offense in NFL history to 14 points.
Flash forward to 2010, and we're seeing the same scenario unfold in the Meadowlands.
Quarterback Eli Manning is once again merely average, with an 86.1 passer rating, He once again leads the NFL in INTs, this time with 19 picks through 13 games. The defense in 2010 is good, but not great, surrendering 19.2 PPG (ninth).
And once again, Big Blue is led by its defensive front. The Giants this year are No. 2 on our Defensive Hog Index, just a smidge behind the Chargers. More importantly, Osi Umenyiora (team-high 10 sacks) and pals get after the quarterback better than any bunch in football.
New York entered Week 15 with a league-high 39 sacks (the Chargers surpassed the Giants with a six-sack effort Thursday night against San Francisco). More importantly, the Giants lead the NFL in forcing what the Cold, Hard Football Facts call Negative Pass Plays: 11.66 of opponent drop backs end in a sack or interception, the highest rate in the NFL, and nearly the same exact rate of mistakes forced by the 2007 champs.
Bottom line: most teams win because they have great quarterbacks. The Giants win because their Defensive Hogs dominate the trenches."

Nicks will be fine and probably put up around 7 for 102 1 td type line. The Eagles are terrible in two areas of the game on D. The first is defending against the TE so expect Boss to have a big game for this reason (not to mention all the wrs down). The second is their red zone D. They are f'n AWFUL defending in close and I don't expect it to change in this game unless balls start bouncing off wr's hands and bradshaw goes back to tiki football.
I think the Giants will finally get a big win against Philly by making Vick to scramble to his right and eliminating the big play. We'll see soon enough, but I'm really surprised it isn't getting the press such a huge game up here should. The division could very well be decided with this game and here we are talking about the asshole jets and their dirt bag ways all day. Sports radio is even worse than normal right now, or anytime the Jets are the topic and their callers dominate the airwaves. It's just as bad as when the yankee fans call up near the trading deadline with their "suggestions" on what the yanks need to do.

Yeah, it does feel that way most times. I mean, every year before the season starts, it feels like the media always picks the Cowboys to win the division and/or go all the way to the Superbowl.
I'm trying to remember if it was like that during the late 80's as well with Parcell's teams.

see, here's my problem with articles like this.....it acts like the defense isn't part of the team. why does one player in one position have to be the best in the league every year for the SB winning team considered to be legit.....same arguments can be made about any QB who has won a SB......you can say P. Manning would have never won without the receiving core that he had, that Aikman would have never won without Smith running the ball......seems like the only reason this argument exists is because ppl absolutely hate Eli Manning for whatever reason...some Giants fans included.
that being said, after the collapse on D today against an Eagles team that was beat for 90% of the game and that i hate loosing to more than any other team in the league....and of course after watching Matt Dodge suck worse than getting raped by an AIDS patient with a bleeding dick....i'm done watching this team for the rest of the season.....so go ahead and squeek into the playoffs and get booted out after the first round, because i'm done bashing my walls and screaming into pillows and making my neighbor downstairs hate me. go fuck yourselves big blue. you broke my heart.

I really liked the post game new conferences they ran right after each other on fox. One had Coughlin saying that he's the one who should be blamed for the game, including the punt. He was a head coach taking a leadership roll.
Then they showed Jackson who just seems like an asshole. A really good player, but still a complete d-bag.

Thats total make-up on Coughlin's part as it was an absolute d-bag move on his part to immediately grab the punter after the game. He's been around long enough to know how that would get picked up on camera and shift blame off his dumbass.

you watch every game tom. be honest, he was terrible to start. they told us he had ability and they stuck with him, through alot of garbage. then the last few weeks, he was kicking good. you know he was. Last week he had like 3 punts go 50 with no returns over 5 yards, put a couple inside the 20. He has been better. Then he gets into a situation, 14 seconds left, all he is thinking is dont get it blocked. then the snap is high, so he rushes just to kick it at least so it doesnt get blocked. He got it off. he did a decent job
then the punt was initially fumbled and picked back up. Then 100 people missed tackles. Dodge actually made one of the better efforts to tackle him. Sure you would like it to go out of bounds but i dont fault the kid. Maybe if the coach wasnt a tool, they woulda got a few yards and not even had that situation.
i like how dodge has been kicking and woulda said keep him except tom the douche chewed him out for 5 minutes and probably ruined any confidence he still had. Coughlin is such a jerkoff, i hope we keep dodge and fire him.

Bottom line? We should have NEVER lost that game. Ever.
Dan Patrick called it best...Epic Collapse. Man does it make my stomach sick to even hear that!
The Philly stations here? "The Miracle in the NEW Meadowlands"
I just want to throw up while punching something.:furious:
I will admit again, Eli played a great game. Good passing, right in the numbers to almost everyone. Boss dropped one he should never have. O line stayed up, allowing only one sack. Protected Eli most of the game. Opened up some holes for the running game. (wasn't great but an improvement over the last Eagles game)
Limited turnovers.
D just ran out of gas too...very uncharacteristic of them.
I just am losing faith in this team man.

Give him the Michael Irvin treatment. drop him on his head. never to return to football.
I cant defend him because I didnt see the press conference. What did he say?
If youre talking about his actions as far as doing the Nestea Plunge against Dallas last week then fuck yea I am. I love that about him. Hes got swagger. He wants the ball, he wants to win and rub his opponents face in it too. When that opponent is a heated rival of the Eagles I fucking love it. Thats why even though alot of the fans here hate him, TO is one of my all time favorite Eagles.
And for the record even though I hated that he would do it to my team, I always respected Michael Irvin for having that swagger and confidence when hed play. Probably why the U is my favorite college football team too.

I just don't like the whole let me do something to piss people off move. He's the kind of player that wants to rub in the other teams/fans face when he succeeds, and he can and I'm not going to lose sleep over it. But I don't like it. It's one thing I admire about hockey. It's not a lot of this excessive celebration stuff.

It's a showboat sport. I think people are uncomfortable because it wasn't always a showboat sport. I would be pissed if someone did that to the Eagles, but from a fan standpoint not a fundamentals of the game standpoint. Really, isn't that the time to act like a hammy ass? Dude won the game on an amazing run, that started out looking disastrous, with no time left on the clock. It's better than acting like Macho Man Randy Savage because you tackled someone.

I would love to know the other games, and if it was the road or home team. Philly also scored 28 points in the last 8 minutes not even the whole 4th q but half of it. I would bet those other teams were home teams and it took the entire 4th q to score. I wonder when these game were? Because I cant think of any in the past 20 years. Maybe pre merger?!!!

Earlshog, just read that myself :
DeSean Jackson scored the game-winning touchdown on a 65-yard punt return on the game's final play. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jackson is the first player in NFL history to score a game-winning touchdown on a punt return on the final play of the fourth quarter.
Also :
The Giants owned a 31-10 lead in the fourth quarter before Philadelphia scored the game's final 28 points. The Giants had owned a fourth-quarter lead of at least 21 points and lost only one other time in their history. On Nov. 21, 2006, they led at Tennessee, 21-0, but lost, 24-21.
Guess that's one of the previous 8.

Fuck that, his move was completely douchey...again. And why would it be a big deal for him? Oh perhaps bc he's lost the ball/td/games in the past doing such dickbag moves? Or perhaps walking the sideline with a guy behind u in the end zone and the extra time making it more likely a flag/infraction happens to call it all back. The guy is a classic narcissistic asshole, case closed. And I don't like either team.
Also, on the Dodge thing, he's awful and hasn't even been as good as Snoogans makes him out over the last few games. His punts, even when decent in distance, are hardly placed well and makes me happy to have a guy like Scifres whenever I see him (weekly now bc no DTV package). It's his only job and he routinely sucks at it, just as the D coord rang up some AWFUL calls to finish out this game. Celek and his blazing speed started this rally with a 60+ yard catch and run. That's right Celek. Not only does he run slower than Crippler, he catches worse than Justjon. Ok, maybe not that bad but that play was pathetic, especially looking at the game situation.

Eli had a great 4th Q but that game was won hands down by that defense. They held the highest powered offense in NFL history to 14 points. That is almost as good as what Balt did in the SB. Balt held an avg NYG offense to 7 points. But the NYG held Brady and his 50 TD passes and Moss and his 23 td rec to 14 total points!

Eli didnt have a TD and threw for 50%. I would say the defense and Favre throwing 2 picks especially to end the game was just as big as anything Eli did.
I personally like Eli and think he gets more shit then he deserves from people like Tom. I have actually had arguments with him over it. That being said, the only thing top 10 about Eli is his contract! I can easily name 10 better QBs
Peyton
Brady
Big Ben

Vick
Romo

No you can NOT add Cutler to that list! :furious:
Also, it's one hell of a stretch to just throw guys like Romo, Ryan, Vick and Schaub ahead of him. I'd argue even this very moment he's not better than plenty on that list and has done a TON more than many others. In the end, it depends on how your ranking them, when and of course what metrics. I think guys like Brady, Brees and Manning are ahead of most all-time greats too, so that's not really making some crazy statement of how shitty Eli is compared to them. Rivers, Rodgers and Vick are at this moment better no doubt, but they aren't that far ahead in the end. Everyone will have different opinions on this type debate surely, but it's not like Eli is average or below. He's a pretty good qb and I want to hate him for dissing my team via his DADDY'S advice.

See I dont hate him and I think he is a decent QB. I would take him on my team in a heartbeat. But everyone I mentioned I would also take over him and think they are better. Maybe not Cutler your right but I would say the 2 of them are side by side. Cutler throws a lot of picks but so has Eli at least this year he has! There no question Cutler has a faster release and more arm strength!
Eli will probably continue the career hes having. Every year he will throw 20-25 TDs, 15 or so ints and close to 4000 yards. Between the SB victory and possibly another over his career, his number and his name he will even be a hall of famer!

Yes during the regular season the Giants D wasn't the Steel Curtain but as soon as the playoffs kicked in so did the D. So yes...for the entire playoffs the D made it possible for the O to put enough points to win the games.

That was nasty and impressive!
He's 100% correct. They took a Hall of Fame worthy team and kept them to 14 points.

Peyton
Brady
Big Ben
Schaub
Rivers (what a great trade by SD they are so much better off and got even more players)
Vick
Romo
Rodgers
Matty Ice
Brees
You could even add Cutler and Flacco
Ya know...you had me RIGHT up to the point where you put Romo and Cutler and Flacco in that list. Then your theory went to shit.

SD is better off because they have Rivers instead of Eli. Would SD have won a SB if Eli was there? Would the NYG not have won if Rivers was there?
The fact is Rivers is a much better QB its not even close!
Now that's the ultimate question isn't it?
I personally believe that Rivers, if playing for the Giants, may have gotten to the Super Bowl and won it by this time as well. In fact I think if Rivers were on the Giants he would also be regarded as one of the top 2 or 3 QB's in the NFC, if not the league. I also feel we may have had a better playoff record in other years.
There is no doubt that Rivers is a better QB than Eli. I think he is also pretty damn close, if not on par, with Peyton.
Yes the Bolts were a damn good team in the same time the Giants were SB bound. But I think the D on the Giants is a bit better.
And that is what wins games ultimately.
So the Giants would have won (and, IMHO, may have returned to the SB as well) with Rivers. And no San Diego would not have won with Eli, but that would be because of the coaching, not the player.

Now that's the ultimate question isn't it?
Is Tom Brady was the starting QB for the Giants and Peyton Manning their backup and Sebastian Janikowski their kicker and Strayhan's teeth didn't have a gap and David Tyree had a bad case of the runs would the Giants have won?
That's the ultimate question.

So youre trying to tell me Eli Manning had nothing to do with the Giants winning the Super Bowl that year??? Holy fuck. And you people have the balls to criticize Philly fans??? You are fucking delusional.
And until San Diego wins a Super Bowl the Giants got the better end of that deal. Period. What dont you guys get? Thats the goal. Thats the whole reason teams make trades, sign free agents, and draft players. Its not to get the player that gets the most yards or has the best stats or wins the most regular season games. Its to win the fucking Super Bowl. So if a team trades quarterbacks....of all positions...and one of them wins the Super Bowl and the other one doesnt, they got the better end of the trade. I cant believe there are people that actually dont get that.

What dont you get, the goal is for the team to win. The player and who is better is decided on championships. Why is that so hard to to figure out? You think Eli is better then Rivers? If you do then your an asshole! No one in their right mind thinks that! So I guess Trent Dilfer is/was better the Mcnabb? You would rather have trade and had him right? No because no matter who you had you wouldnt have won because the team failed. You make it seem like its all the QB and thats it! Wrong Dilfer helped Balt but didnt win it. Mcnabb on Balt would have helped Balt too, he might have even won 2 with Balt because they were a better team!

You make it sound like the quarterback has nothing to do with the team winning the Super Bowl!!! That position is the most important in football. And guess what? If the Eagles traded Donovan McNabb for Trent Dilfer, and Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl, while Donovan McNabb didnt, Donovan could have had a hallf of fame career but Id still say the Eagles got the better part of the deal because they got the ring.

And I dont think Eli is better then Rivers. I think NY got the better end of the deal because he managed to accomplish what Rivers has not. Could Rivers have won the Super Bowl in that situation? Maybe. But theres no fucking guarantee of that. Especially when it was won on a miraculous scramble and pass at the end of the game. The whole last drive was amazing. Theres no way to say that if the Giants wouldve had Rivers they still would have that ring. No fucking way.

Eli was surrounded by more talent! He had an all-pro WR, three RB's (one who would plow right though lines and players), and a Defense that never quit. And let's not forget he had an offensive line that was pretty damn good too.
Our special teams were not bad either
Add it all up and that = a winner.
McNabb NEVER had a D like the Giants did that year. If Donovan was on the Giants team he may have won the SB that year too. And I think plenty of Philly fans loved and appreciated McNabb. Just listen to the cheers he got when he stepped back onto that field for the first time this season. I was pleasantly shocked to hear that appreciate him.
Please don't think even though you are delusional about Eli we will fall right in line with you.

Im trying to be civil but at this point I just have to realize you dont know dick about football. That "Steel Curtain" defense you had in NY in 2007? Yea they were ranked 17th in the league in team defense. Yes they had great games but to try to compare them to the 2000 Ravens is a fucking joke. They were an average defense that got hot at the end and played well in the Super Bowl. They were by no means a the dominant defense of the league in 2007.
And I love how everyones excuse in defending McNabb is "he had no talent around him". Again, absolute bullshit. While before TO got here he did not have any great receivers, he still had an excellent offensive line that stayed together for years, a constant pro bowl tight end, always an above average running back and in Westbrooks case, one of the best in the league, and a defense that was usually stellar. Those years McNabb kept going to the NFC Championship, 2001-2004, the Eagles D was ranked 2nd, 2nd, 7th and 2nd.
But McNabb never had a defense like the Giants that was ranked 17th in 2007? Just stop. I get it, you dont like Eli. Believe me I can sympathize. You keep spewing this shit about knowing football like no one else does because they disagree with you. I know football, I played football I was supposed to go to college and play football but decided to go a different route. All that means is dick. I know plenty of shit bags who have played sports in their day that means dick because who knows how good their programs were how competitive they were. Was the HS you went to ranked nationally every year? Or were they a bunch of retards from a special school. Big difference right? So please stop with your shit about knowing football, you know no more then others on here. You just value championships for players more then others. I would actually say you know less because you think the only important thing when judging players is championships and most people dont. Most people who know football know its a team sport and that has always been one. Most people who knows about football, like the ones who have played professional football all agree Rivers is better! Listen to the NFL Network, ESPN and any former player who has his own show. They all agree that SD got the better deal in that trade. Eli has been solid, Rivers has been top 5! So when it comes to who is better and who got the better player and the better part of the deal it is the SD Chargers. Its not debatable! But NYG fans can say even though they know they lost out in the trade we are happy to have at least gotten a title. Oh and here, being a Rivers fan I'll settle this for you once and for all. On the field Rivers is at this time a better QB in terms of raw stats, leadership and ability. However, one can absolutely NOT say he would have won with the Giants and bc of this, the Giants got the best thing so far out of this trade, a championship. I don't allow this to come into the equation when judging bt the two straight up as qbs, but I do put this into the trade breakdown equation.
The trade impacted the Chargers in other ways as well of course, bc Rivers was not as ready as Eli, so Rivers took some time but SD did have Brees then. Of course AJ Smith was an asshole/idiot on that matter and simply let him walk when 15 teams would have traded a good amount to get him even off the labrum tear.
Due to the qb swap the Chargers netted two impact players, Kaeding and Merriman. At this point Merriman has lost his value completely and Kaeding has been the most accurate kicker...during the regular season. In the playoffs however, he is one of the main reasons for two earlier than expected exits (both against the Jets).
So wrap that all up and chew it bc that's my gift to all you football experts, especially the ones who PLAYED in the past. Oh and good school or not, both will have people that understand the game and those who don't. Some of my high school's best players were simply great athletes and didn't really get the tactical part of the game one bit. They just ran hard or hit everything without fear. It made them good players at that level, but surely being in a good program doesn't automatically translate into a good football mind Snacks.

I think the argument comes because apparently you guys feel that Eli was interchangeable with Rivers and with that wouldve accomplished that same thing with that team. Jesus! You're talking about Giant fans who booed Simms until he won the Superbowl. Then he was the best thing ever.
I played football in H.S., college, whatever, Blah blah blah. Matt Millen played NFL football and he talked a good game until he became a GM and how did he do??
And I think Eli and Rivers play in a system that suits their abilities. (Although I questioned why Chargers took Rivers when they had Brees).
Fuck Eli and Rivers, it's all about the coach and getting them to perform to their abilities. But they both good QBs.

a school from the city of Philadelphia ranked in the country and a top 3 school no less? Wow! Didnt know they had any of those. I know NJ we have 2-5 schools ranked nationally every year. When I was in HS my school never made it past 10 or 12 but they were ranked every year from 1979-1990 now they are only usually ranked in the state. I think they were shit this year. Funny thing is in all the years I followed football other then Bergen Catholic I have never remembered any schools from NY. NJ or Philly area ranked that hight! I must have missed a year!
I graduated from Washington Township HS in NJ, in 1993.

He's so good they LOOKED into a possible beneficial trade based on the return and the fact that Mike Martz didn't use a system that employed the TE in the passing game often, his biggest asset. So yah, not so accurate on that one.
Martz has slowly adjusted his system to include Olsen over the year and it's paying off. Also, Forte is one of the best pass catching rbs in the league every year now and led the league his rookie season! If anything, his stats fell in part since Cutler's arrival in Chicago, not Martz (think Falk from his past).
However, nobody in their right mind would claim even a true #1 wideout exists on Chicago right now. Bennet, Knox and Hester are all slot type receivers and #2's at best. Yet his stats were pretty much the same in his main two years in Denver with guys like Marshall, Royal, Scheffler and Stokley.
In conclusion, fuck Denver and fuck Cutler.

Mike Martz wants to duplicate that 1999 Rams team so bad. Hes got imitations (Definitely NOT duplications) of Faulk, Holt and Hakim. Hes just got no Isaac Bruce. And Cutler isnt bad but not as good as Warner was back then.

He does, but isn't as rigid as in his last attempt due to the AWFUL results. I think he's actually not doing such a bad job right now with the likes of Cutler's brain and the wrs on that team. Still, they aren't going anywhere this year.

Hes a top 5 in the league thats how good he is.
Was it his fault SD won today? Wasnt the argument about who is better him or Eli. Well he was 27/40 for 256 1 td 1 int. eli was 17/33 for 301 2 Td and 4 INTS. Rivers didnt win the game for SD but Eli sure as fuck had more to do with his teams loss!

Yea well neither of them are making the playoffs, but Eli gets to look at his ring while hes watching them. I dont think Rivers stinks, but I think he gets alot of credit for a QB thats never accomplished anything.

thats exactly how I feel about Rivers too. gets too much credit for leading his team nowhere. and he loves to talk too, which pisses me off even more.
to his credit im sure it was a little more difficult to win big games when LT was always standing on the sideline doing nothing to help.

they are right, but its not because rivers is so much better than eli only. its also because of the other picks they gave up. Overall the trade ended up a big win for SD but if they had just traded manning for rivers it wouldnt be so clean cut

hes not better then Brees but hes close. they couldnt get anything for him. He was a free agent and had a dislocated shoulder and only 2 teams wanted him. Miami and New Orleans and New Orleans offered 4 years $10 million per. At the time he looked like a huge gamble.

Brees was designated as the Chargers franchise player after the 2004 season, which gave him a one-year, $8 million deal. He had a productive season in 2005 but injured his throwing shoulder in the last game of the regular season.
Although they had Rivers waiting in the wings, San Diego offered Brees a five-year, $50 contract with incentives for production in case the shoulder was not fully healed. He then had discussions with Miami and NO, both who weren't offering much more than SD because the guy's shoulder was really fucked up.
He eventually went with NO and we know the rest of the story.
So in fact, Brees was a free agent when he went to the Saints. And for the people who are killing the Chargers because of this, look at it this way:
*Brees's shoulder injury
*Rivers being the QB of the future and getting starter's money already

Brees offer from SD was the max that was based on incentives his base was only going to be $2 million a year
Miami never made an offer they went and traded for Culpepper. NO offer was for $10 million guaranteed for the 1st year and $12 million option for the 2nd year.
from wiki
After the season, the Chargers offered Brees a 5-year, $50 million contract that paid $2 million in base salary the first year and the rest heavily based on performance incentives. Brees evaluated the incentive-based offer as a sign of no confidence by the Chargers and promptly demanded the salary a top 5 "franchise" quarterback would receive.

First, AJ Smith and Marty had HUGE fights over the future of the organization and Marty surely didn't want to just dump Brees in the fashion they did. All they had to do was franchise him and they would have at least received something for him. Instead, they canned Marty (bc he can't be "controlled" like shitty Norv can) and let Brees walk. Stupid move all around, but it was based on AJ being fucking AJ.
Next, Rivers isn't even CLOSE to blame for the year they've had, if anything it's the special teams that cost them about 4 fucking games. On top of that, he essentially hasn't had a top 3 wr until Jackson came back pretty much last week. He had Gates early, and they hooked up often, but it was still guys like Nannee, Crayton, Washington, Ajirotutu, Davis and Floyd here and there. He's not the issue in any way, as when they go no huddle and have to thrwo with teams KNOWING he's going to throw he's usually at his best. To me, this shows Norv is not as involved here as the qb is making the final call more often, if not the full decision. Even with these factors he has now put up a third straight year of 100+ qb rating and 4,000+ yards. Actually he already broke his yardage record for a season this year and now has led the league for 3 straight years on yards/attempt.
Sure he hasn't won yet, but that isn't so easy when you're matching NORV TURNER against the Tomlin, Belichik and pretty much anything with a pulse who played at least 5 minutes of TECMO BOWL.
