I keep getting letters in the mail from my credit union about their "paid in full" life insurance coverage and how all I need to do is fill out and mail back the beneficiary information to be enrolled. I threw out the first two notices, but I decided to read on out of boredom today trying to find the catch. Now it is quite obvious from the mailer that the whole idea is to get you to upgrade to a higher coverage level. But they say that they will cover $1000 for free no strings attached. $1000 is nothing, but free is free, right?
So is this a legit thing? The mailer is from my credit union, whom I trust, and the insurance is through The Hartford. I have no intention of buying life insurance any time soon, but I cant pass up something that is free. I just dont want to sign a paper that authorizes them to charge me a maintenance fee every month or something (they pulled that shit already by automatically enrolling all members in credit monitoring). Anyone??
