I have an old LG flip phone for many years and i wanted to get a new cell phone (verizon plan). Freinds of mine and coworkers have a ENV3 and swear by it. So i go into Verizon to buy it and they tell me - "oh last month Verizon decided to require DATA PLANS FOR ALL THEIR BETTER PHONES!"
I dont want or need a data plan. I want to make calls and do some light texting. Verizon worker shows me 3 low ends pieces of shit phones and one decent one...a Samsung Intensity.
But im pissed! I wanted the ENV-3 or touch or a blackberry. Everyone I know has one of those models and didnt get fucked with a data plan requirement.
How can they get away with this??
Anyone have Tmobile or Sprint in NYC and does it give as good call quality and coverage as Verizon? I would love to leave them.

I've been on Nextel, and later sprint for 10 years now.
Around here, no problem at all. Can be a bit spotty when going out west for camping.
Stay away from T-Mobile.

What would you recommend for texting and calling. My friends have ENV3 because of its qwerty keyboard, long battery life, good call quality,,,and it seems solid.
The cheap plastic flip phone that dont have a DAta plan dont have keyboards..so i dont seee how youd text, cycling through ABC DEF buttons etc...

If you're going to spring for a text plan, why not just pay a few bucks more for a unlimited data plan?

cuz you can get the verizon plan of 250 texts a month for 5 bucks,it was perfect for me

its only 9.99 for the cheaper data option, i think a lot of people were getting these phones and using aol im, yahoo etc, thinking they were being charged for text messaging when some of em use normal web access to send those messages.
before you go switching providers just make sure you check their plans and make sure you're not gonna be in the same boat.

if i want to stay with Verizon - the Samsung Intensity got mediocre reviews at best. But the fliphone called the SAMSUNG CONVOY got good reviews (not great but good).
$39 for 450 minutes talk
$10 for unlimited texting in network and 500 texts out.
with taxes and crap - I figure 62 dollars a month. Spending another $140 a year to get data which i wont use just to get a better phone isnt for me.

i just got the convoy,i'm pretty happy with it,unless you text alot you might want to go with the 250 texts for 5 bucks,i only send maybe 100 texts a month so it was good for me

for an extra 20 a month you could get a droid and have unlimited data.
you wont regret it.
