Right off the bat Im not saying he isnt funny but that I dont find him funny. Obviously my problem and not his

Ive tried to watch the UK office did not like it and any time Ive seen RG i just find him annoying and smug never funny.

I do find a few bits he has done interesting. There is a bit from Extras (I think) about celebrity that I found very insightful but I didnt laugh

I watched his 60 minutes interview before the Golden Globes and it made me dislike him even more

What am I missing?

I didn't find his movies to be too hilarious but the UK Office was amazing.

Yea I've tried also, and just don't find him amusing. Nor is the British Office

Do you like the American Office?

British humor can be much different than American humor. I love both versions of the Office, though.

His movies are cute, but nothing cutting edge or hilarious. And I loved Extras more than The Office.

Amazing how different things resonate with different people. I loved the UK Office, couldn't watch the US Office or Extras, and barely finished his movies.

This I will agree on.

As far as if I liked the American Office more than British? I'd say both have the occasional funny, but not this unbelievable genius comedy show that people love to say cuz it sounds cool. Mostly.

Everyone has their own sense of humor. It happens.

Do you like British humour at all? Monty Python? Simon Pegg?

Don't worry, it's natural.

I would suggest watching this new animated show, which just cut up audio from his podcast, but 90% of the laughs belong to Karl, not Ricky.

You know, I suggest, if you like laughing, watching The Ricky Gervais Show:

I think the uk office is a diffenet kind of show, not the sitcom formula. It doesn't have punchline set up punchline. Maybe that means you can't just jump in and start laughing like with many sitcoms, you need to know the characters. Extras was more a straight sitcom I think I found it funnier but liked them both. His movies border on romantic comedies, as such they are good. But not a ferrel or apatow laugh fest.

I can agree with this. I think Gervais is just ok, and it doesn't have anything to do with British humor. I'm a big fan of brit humor - digging the In Betweeners right now - but RG can be kind of off putting.

Yes. Doesn't do much for me. I like Norton, Louis C.K., Eddie Izzard, and others. George Carlin is a god

Yes, and it is great. Just not the UK Office.

I find that Gervais is better as a sort of catalyst for the people around him to get the laughs. This was especially true on Extras, as this all-time classic scene shows:

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fg_cwI1Xj4M&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Fg_cwI1Xj4M&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

It's Sir Patrick who's really getting the laughs here. Gervais' reactions and lines move the scene along, of course, but this is Patrick Stewart's turn here. On the podcast, that's mostly Karl Pilkington -- Gervais is getting him to talk nonsense about eating a knob at night, but Karl gets the big line in the end.

Which is not to say that Gervais isn't funny on his own; just that he works better with others. Which is why I found his standup a little unsatisfying myself.

I find his work on The OFFICE and Extras to be hysterical...i bought the EXTRAS dvd's before watching one episode, only because he was in it....and it was one of the best blind buy's i've ever made.

His movies, stand up.....meh.....

But his new HBO animated talk show (with Karl) is the one show that i now look forward to week to week.

Not a huge stand up fan but nothing is better than The Office or his podcasts

When I first saw this I was laughing my ass off. I know that Ricky wrote the song and the bit.

Wow, Hate? Did you listen to the podcast? I rate the Gervais podcast as his second best work, after The Office.

I do think this HBO show is an unnecessary cash-in but the material still get a laugh from me - and it has gotten people I know into Gervais who didn't care to listen to hours and hours of the podcast.

If you have Itunes, get his podcast, he has some free short ones up, and if you want to really laugh, watch the Invention of Lying Karl's review.

If you do not laugh at all during this, then I don't know what to say.

Extra's had some brilliantly funny episodes, the Kate Winslet one for example, that again I find hard to believe anyone who watched it would not laugh.

i guess hate is a strong word, but yea.......i really dislike it. its just him and his buddy sitting around and ripping on their other friend for saying stupid shit. ive watched 3 episodes, havent laughed once.

It's just his podcast radio show from a few years ago now animated.

Karl Pilkington is fucking hilarious to my think. However, I find nearly everything Gervais touches to be of quality.

I'm really enjoying the animated show. Its a very simple concept that I find hilarious.
