View Full Version : 9/11 overload
Has anyone else noticed that 9/11 is just being mentioned way to much in all the wrong places? Everyone has the right to still be upset, I know I am, but 2 things recently pissed me off.
1) The laser eye surgeon advertising on WNEW using 9/11 to scare you into getting the procedure. "You never know what might happen and you can't put your contacts on in the dark" The first time I heard it it made my stomach turn. I never like it when I see people playing on other people's fears for their own profit, but this is so blatently offensive I want to go down to their office and beat them.
2)I flipped past a cooking show on PBS I think, and the cook said "Ever since what happened in September, Comfort food has never been more important." Do I really need you guilting me into trying your meatloaf that badly? Is that not the lamest thing you've ever heard someone say to make themselves feel more important?
I understand that what happened is going to be a huge part of our lives for a long time, but mentioning it in inapropriate places isn't helping. I mean besides the news where I expect it, I think I hear 9/11 referenced somewhere everyday. Does this upset anyone else as much as it does me?

you can't put your contacts on in the dark
Well, if it's dark, you can't see, so why would you need your contacts anyway? They are making a dumb statement here....
But I do agree, Hosp. I especially despise when a politician talks about it as though he is single-handedly sifting through the rubble. The things that sell stuff in ads are usually Sex and Fear. Everyone's heard that "Sex Sells", but you also try to get someone to be fearful of not having a product. That's downright despicable in this instance.

holy shit i never saw that lotto one. yeah this stuff really bugs me, capitalizing on a tragedy like that. these people have no soul and are rotten little douchbags who are weak and small. they will get theirs in the end because they will die miserable, never knowing true feelings. they will only know money and evil and they will die that way. fuck em.
thanks to WWFallon
and Gvacnomore for the

Ads on WNEW in bad taste? Say it isn't so.
Don't forget, guys, that radio ads for the most part are the lowest common denominator. We've become immune to ads for longitude and other products.
Look, 9/11 has become a bonanza for people who are schemers. If it's red white and blue, or has to do with the firemen or police, people will buy it. The retarded Laverne and Shirley are examples of this.
I'm not saying your heart is in the wrong place for displaying your patriotism, it's just that people will prey on that and people will buy into it. It's that simple.
<img src="http://tenbatsuzen.homestead.com/files/flairsig.jpg">
Me and my brother-in-law were having a long running discussion on "false patriotism". At first it was just a knee jerk reaction, people wrapping themselves in the flag almost as a security blanket to make themselves feel better, yet really not doing anything. My mother was guilty of this. She was one of those people pushing others out of the way at Wal-mart to get at the new shipment of flags. We've never owned a flag before but she just had to now.
I'm proud I'm American. America is the only place a Russian/Irish/Italian mutt like me could have been born, but I don't feel the need to "flaunt" it. When the time comes, I step up to do my part, then I become another annonyous face in the crowd until I'm needed again.

I too was overly disgusted at that laser eye surgury commercial. In my opinion there was just no need to mention September 11th in there at all.
IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME-AHHH!

and let's face it, the news isn't innocent in all this either. Just last week I saw an ad for probably FOX saying how they have the story of the man who survived the WTC attack but got himself caught up in another terrorist bombing. And it's been going on "We have the last survivor pulled from the wreckage," "we have mothers of babies whose fathers were killed on 9/11," "these people want to be alone in their grief...what do they have to hide? tonight at 10."
And I still say the Olympics will use 9/11 to sell their product because, let's face it, who cares about the Olympics but when you make it a patriotic event, well if you're not patriotic then you're the closest thing to a terrorist there is. Go swim team!
