WHAT THE FUCK????

Three days without power??? Unless you're in an area that's been hit by widespread outages that's a brutal amount of time to be without power.

I had to go out and survey storm damage and customer outages today, as I work for the utility, and the worse damage I have ever seen was in Seaford and Massapequa here on Long Island. Trees were down on every block, hundred and hundreds of them. Many of them fallen onto peoples homes and cars. Unbelievable. Seriously, if you are in that area, it will probably not be on until Wed unless you are lucky. It really looked like a tornado went through this area. I live in Mineola and it was nothing compared to the south shore. The further south you go, the worse.
Try and hang in there. It effected 75,000 customers and its going to take a while. I saw all these bucket trucks from Massachusetts in the lot when I was going home a little while ago, so we are getting out of state aid now.

just driving around my neighborhood today, like 10 streets were blocked off due to trees getting knocked over. one if front of our building crushed two parked cars.

saw mill was completely flooded and shut down in a few sections as well.

Yea, because public works people in NY need more problems..and the state has lots of money left over for projects such as this.
Unfortunately the Northeast is OLD and infrastructure blows in many places. Newer housing developments are much better designed...but old neighborhoods are fucked when this stuff happens.

Good luck Lleeder!

Underground power lines are the absolute worst. When there is a problem, it cannot be pinpointed without massive excavation. Here in the city, a few years ago, ConEd took over a month to find out the cause of a whole neighborhood being out. The wires are all underground and they can't just dig it up, in some areas there is a lot of shit down there, water, gas, sewer, steam, subway stuff, oil, who knows what. Crazy.

I would think that underground power lines would be run in conduit, not just buried in the dirt.

Some were without power for almost a month due to the first big winter storm we had early December. Living in a rural area has its disadvantages.

Jesus Tap Dancing Christ!!
Optimum went out a 6 PM Sat. No problem, we'll catch up on some DVD's.
9 PM the power went out. Now the fun starts.

The day started with bring Kev to the Pinewood regionals by 9 AM. (He placed 7th out of 31:thumbup:)

Get home, make some lunch, and have Sean at the Ice House by 2 PM to finish his skating merit badge.

2:00 at the Ice House

*Scoutmaster* Tub, don't you skate?

*Tub* Yes, I skate. I was pretty good in the day. I was planning on going home and catching up on some stuff. Plus I have Kevin.

*Scoutmaster* Well, if you skate, you can help some of the boys with skills.
Kevin, would you like to skate?

*Kevin* Yes. I would.

*Scoutmaster* Done! The troop will pick up the tab for you and the boy to go skating.

I haven't been on the ice in a year, and my muscles were starting to ache. We finished skating around 5:30 and headed home in a motherfucker of a storm.

Back to the timeline.

When the power went out, the sump pump stopped working. We started bailing out the sump hole. Many of the neighbors went to bed, and were greeted by 3 to 4 inches in their basemntes.
NOT the Tubs. We calculated 45 minutes for the hole to refill. We went in shifts. You bail, I'll take a nap. I'll bail, you take a nap. It took aboot 20-25 buckets to empty the hole into the slop sink.

Bottom line, the basement is safe and dry.

As of this afternoon, I am the proud owner of a 4 cycle, 6.5 HP Briggs & Stratton generator. Enough inputs for sump, refrig, storage freezer, and small AC unit.

Mother Nature can suck my fat hog!!!!!

If you are running a generator and your power is off, just make sure you tell the utility crew if you see them working on the wires, because you are actually back feeding the system and can kill someone unaware.
