Seriously...is there anyone out there who is without sin? If you are an athiest, is there such a thing as sin? does anyone care?

Well Christians are born with original sin, so they're all screwed. Not sure about other religions but I'm sure they all follow some sort of similar hokus pokus.

if you are an athiest, which i am, you only live by your personal moral values. i know when i do something fucked up, so i guess you can label it a sin.

I had this conversation with my husband this weekend. I don't believe in sinning, mostly because I don't fall for the blackmailing scheme that the church or the bible tries to run on people. If you are good and you follow these magically written 10 laws you will go to heaven and live a gold filled afterlife with the angels. I believe in personal responsibly and doing what is right because it's right not because of the prize you get.
I also hate when people try to tell you want God or what Jesus would want you to do. I don't think they give jack shit about what I do. They aren't around anymore, if they ever were, and if they are here they have bigger fish to fry then being against gays, or looking down at woman that have abortions. Again the bible was written and re-written by mortal men that played god with their words. It's not like the very first bible has a sticker on it saying all the stories within are approved by The Father The Son and the Holy Ghost.
I don't think you should trouble yourself with sins and if they are real or not. Live your life like you want but live in responsibly. Don't hurt people, don't lie, don't cheat on your wife, don't create impossible problems for people, don't make and ass of yourself at a party :) Just be a good person. You don't need a book to tell you what is right or wrong.

As a nontheist, I believe strongly in right and wrong. A normal, sane person knows what is right and wrong, and will take satisfaction in improving the world through good deeds and behavior, and will feel shitty after doing something wrong. For me, there is no guarantee of an afterlife, much less one based upon behavior in the real world. The real, palpable hell occurs in real life, when one has to live with their wrong actions. Likewise, a "heavenly" existence can be maintained through positive actions.

Neither sin nor morals actually exist.
We've developed a moral sense as an evolutionary adaptation.

If you are a Christian, you know the answer is no.
If you are an athiest, is there such a thing as sin?
Of course there is sin. Atheist may not believe in a god, an afterlife or anything like that, but they do believe in language. I am sure they acknowledge the idea of sin. They may simply not believe in the ramifications of sin's meaning on the same level as Christians.
does anyone care?

My impression of the English language is that a "sin" requires the context of a god. If one does not believe in a god, then by default, they do not believe in sin.

Yea, Christians have the Bible defininition to catch everybody in sin, the one where "if you've lusted, you've comitted adultry. If you've hated, you've murdered". We don't need stupid Popeee talk to make us dirty...face!

I asked my magic 8 ball if this is true and it said "It is certain", it must be true becaue the pyrmid thingy floats in water, which is a funny color so probably magic.

Everything is going wrong. I left my dog in the care of a family member for a few months while I was moving. I come back and he's seriously ill now, and I'm giving him 10 pills a day to keep him alive. I should have never left him. I am so heart broken after getting dumped. I dumped a guy that was really into me a few years ago, and he was a mess over it. I am getting what has been coming to me.

I don't think any of the major belief systems does what you describe, no religion gets you at the time you do stuff you usually have to die to be punished are be reincarnated. I also dont know what kind of God would harm an animal in order to get back at a human.
just saying
My impression of the English language is that a "sin" requires the context of a god. If one does not believe in a god, then by default, they do not believe in sin.
Many people use "sin" to mean "something bad." I remember the old "Weight Watcher's Desserts" commercials where the slogan was "Sinfully Delicious." While I don't expect Christians are repelling in fear of retribution for eating chocolate cake with only a half a gram of fat, I do expect Christians and non-Christians to see the commercial and think, "That Weight Watcher's Cake is so good, it might cross the line into gluttony."
Do I think of sin in the same context as a Christian is taught to? No, but that is not the point. I do give the word meaning in my daily life. The occasional religious extremist who finds out that I don't believe in Jesus Christ tries to make the case that my lack of religious belief leads to amorality because I don't understand the difference between right and wrong. I disagree with their point, I believe in "sin" I just don't look at the idea of sin as being related to offending my god.
