It's one of the more human egocentric and illogical philosophies.

I tend to agree that it is egocentric to think God wants our love and will reward us for our love.

With all due respect, what do you expect Tom to say?

His last name is Stoppard.

I think anthropomorphizing god is a big mistake. There is supposed to be a lot of value in god as a supreme mystery, and people want to disneyfy him.

I dont think its an egocentric idea. I think its a way to get people to forgo immediate reward for longer lasting and more profound benefits. Why would I plant a farm when I can just rob my weak neighbor? Well, the steadier diet gives me and my family an overall better quality of life, allows communities to grow, a trust network to develop and an economy to start. We may have only innately understood that we would all do better if we acted virtuously, but it came out in our mythology. You cant treat these ideas like someone thought them up yesterday.

I don't think I'll get things right unless I have an eternity to do it.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

They had Disney back when Genesis was written?

My point is, when they say man was created in God's image, how can you come to any other conclusion than that God looks, acts and talks like us?

We aren't anthropomorphizing God, he deipomorphized us.

Maybe you're taking that idea too literally. We're obviously very different from animals, I think you could say our intellectual and emotional capacity is how we're formed in god's image without making god a guy with a white robe and a long white beard. Its a pretty major idea that god made his son human so that we could have access to the kingdom of heaven, if we were literally in the image of god would that be necessary?

If we were made in god's image, I'm hoping god is a white person, because I am white, and it would suck to not look like god.

Richie loved to use 22's because the bullets are small and they don't come out the other end like a 45. See, a 45 will blow a barn door out the back of your head and there's a lot of dry cleaning involved, but a 22 will just rattle around like Pac-Man until you're dead.

Heaven: A fool's paradise (http://www.independent.co.uk/opinion/faith/heaven-a-fools-paradise-1949399.html)

In reality, the heaven you think you're headed to – a reunion with your relatives in the light – is a very recent invention, only a little older than Goldman Sachs. Most of the believers in heaven across history would find it unrecognisable. Miller's book, Heaven: Our Enduring Fascination with the Afterlife, teases out the strange history of heaven – and shows it's not what you think.

A reknowned scientist who visited the Heavens and came back with a very detailed account.

It proves that the myth of heaven is made up and molded to fit a person's needs and wants.

The idea of Heaven makes God seem a bit egocentric doesn't it. You get to bask in my glory for all eternity. It's like just watching the shit out of something forever and ever.

thepaulo

I don't think Heaven is suppose to be a reward. I think very very few get their spirtual shit together enough to get anywhere near God. The Swedenborg model suggest there are an infinite number of heavens and most of them are not with God.
