MOSCOW – Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his wife died Saturday along with 130 others when their plane crashed while coming in for a landing in western Russia, officials said.
The governor of the Smolensk region, where the crash took place about 11 a.m. (0700 GMT), said no one survived.
"The Polish presidential plane did not make it to the runway while landing. Tentative findings indicate that it hit the treetops and fell apart," Sergei Anufriev said on state news channel Rossiya-24. "Nobody has survived the disaster."

The Russians were a MILLION times worse than the Nazis ever were in size and scope of murder. That fucker Stalin was still trying to gain a separate peace with the Nazis as late as 1944, but when he realized the Allies were going to give him every single thing he wanted and more (i.e. drawing the borders at the "Curzon Line", which just happened to be the line of the Nazi-Soviet Pact), he had no more use for them. Not only that, but what the Soviets did to Poland was just criminal, before, during, and after the war.

On Katyn Forest, the Mikolajczyk Polish government in London just wouldn't let it go. Churchill kept telling him it wasn't going to bring them back.

Poland has been dragging its feet in adopting the euro and joining the European Union, having pushed back its target date for doing so until 2015. Allow me to derail this thread a little more and take an opportunity to throw the British under the bus, lest they escape unscathed.

My dad was born in Italy in 1938 - so he grew up during the war. He always told me how good the American GIs were to the Italians and how they shared their rations and handed out chocolate bars to the little Italian kids. He said the British soldiers on the other hand would chase them away at gunpoint and if they did have any food scraps left over they would dig a ditch and fill it up and cover it over rather than share with the starving populous. To this day my dad will still spit in the direction of the Union Jack when he sees it.
