I've been spending some time with Scorsese lately and so curious what's next.....
This will be the Rat Pack film that has been floated for a while.
I wonder what happened to the Theodore Roosevelt film he had planned.

I'd much rather see a Teddy Roosevelt movie, I feel like Sinatra has been done to death, and isn't all that interesting to begin with.

Teddy seems out of Scorsese's comfort zone. Sinatra is the movie he can make great.

I don't know, I think making movies about the American experience is a lot of his career, and I think thats what he'd do with Roosevelt.

Sinatra not interesting?
He won't be if his estate dictates that the film be a sanitized puff piece.

I don't think there's that much surprising about his life anymore, they've been telling his story in one way or another for years. I'm just not a fan of his music, his aesthetic, or him as a person.

"They've" been telling Teddy Roosevelt's story one way or another for over a century. Would it have been better if Scorsese was doing the film about him?
A life story does not have to be "surprising" for a film about it be good.

His estate would only have a say if the filmmakers decided to include them.

They've told Teddy's story in the historical way because he's a historical figure, but I dont think there has been a project that would look at his personal life that has had as much exposure as a Scorcese movie would get. I know less about it, I admire the man more, I'm curious how he will be humanized, I think it's a more dramatic story with lots of contrast, and how will Scorcese look at turn of the century America.
I feel like we've had all the aspects of Sinatra that there are. We've done the warts and all thing and Sinatra the Icon is a completely uninteresting story to me. And I think it would be really similar to stuff Scorcese has already done. I wont care how well acted or shot it is, I will be eternally bored by the story.

I think I don't understand because you make it sound like there have been all kinds of Sinatra biopics and documentaries and the like, but outside of the crappy HBO movie about the Rat Pack and the Kitty Kelly bio there's not much else besides comedy sketches.

You're right, there hasn't been a bunch of projects, but the idea of his style and persona has been redone constantly. If there was a richer character under the surface of that, which has fallen victim to that icon, and Scorcese looked at that, then it would be an interesting movie. But I feel like that richer character isn't there.

I think there is a good movie there. What we know about Sinatra seems wrapped up mostly in the larger than life persona that he projected and has been projected on him. He's almost more a cartoon at this point than anything else. A good movie would strip that away and look at the guy beneath the swagger and bravado.

For that movie, you first need a book that writes about the real Sinatra, I don't think there is one out there right now, is there?

I agree that Sinatra can still be interesting and I'd love to see Marty's take on it. I would also like a Teddy epic but I don't know if scorcese would be right.

Kitty Kelley to the rescue!
