View Full Version : Sarah Palin/Mitt Romney: The Official End Of America?

I'll start out by saying that as a registered Independent, I don't consider myself a Democrat or a Republican, left or right, what-have-you... I have liberal views on many things and conservative views on others. With that in mind, the very thought of Sarah Palin in the White House absolutely fucking terrifies me. In fact, even in hindsight of George Bush's presidency, I would rather have Bush in office. The idea of Sarah Palin running for president, and enough of America voting for her to win pretty much, as far as I can see, would spell certain doom for the United States of America as we know it. Obama better pick it up and have an incredible next 3 years, or we're toast.

It's time to reinstitute poll testing.

As someone opposed to a lot of BHO's policies, the worst thing possible would be Palin as a front runner.

I would like to see Ron Paul heading the ticket but thats a longshot. I think it will be Huckabee or Romney.

Why would you want ron paul to run as a republican? You would be the libertarian that you would vote for?

I would be thrilled at this prospect, as it would pretty much guarantee Obama getting re-elected.

Many, many Republicans (and importantly, Independents) despise her.

He was a GOP candidate during 08. In 88 he ran as a libertarian. Either way, he's got my vote

I'm going to give American the benefit of the doubt as they would not allow Palin to enter the White House.

All the people who voted for Obama just to wash out the Bush smell, would come out again, even stronger, to keep Palin out. She'll have a lot more time in the spotlight to continue her insane rants.

Polls about the election this far out are garbage.

If, by 2012, the economy is clearly in recovery, Obama will be elected. That's pretty much it.

The same as for any other President.

Nah. There are even crazies who don't like her. Her approval rating in the last poll I saw was 37%.

And she lost the straw poll at the latest big conservative convention.

I think a lot of people on the right like her as a shit-stirrer, but don't think she should actually be President.

Amazing how everyone laughs at Ron Paul but he's spot on. Repeal the patriot act. No more wars without a congressional declaration, he's not a religious fundamentalist whats wrong with that?

But here's the thing... We're saying "most of the people/women/republicans I know hate her." But isn't that what we said about Bush by the end of his first term? Didn't most of the people we know hate him too? Wasn't his approval rating in the shitter? But somehow, somewhere, people came out and re-elected him. So, I can't really rest easy just knowing that most of the people I know can't stand her.

I think this would be a good chance for one of the Blue Dogs to jump ship and run as a republican. A moderate democrat who can claim he voted against the health care bill is about as mass-appeal as you can get right now.

Very different. Obama also has low approval, but will likely win reelection. It's what happens to incumbents anymore in this country.

See, I think Palin has the gig she wants now: she gets to fly around and get paid $100K and all the bendy straws she wants to spout nonsense to rubes who love her.

Running for President would ruin her gimmick.

I agree with you. Same goes for Huckabee, but on a lesser scale.

These two are polling well because they are constantly in the media because they are part of the media.

*Polling well in the sense that they are being thought of as front runners for the presidential nom.

you have to try pretty hard not to get re-elected in this country. it's what put gwb over and will also get bho re-elected no matter how low his ratings go. obama's campaign rhetoric to the contrary, america doesn't like change one little bit.

When all is said and done, I think it will be Romney who will run against Obama in 2012. The Republicans love to reward the 2nd Place guy, and Reagan, Bush 1, Dole and McCain were all runner-ups in earlier GOP primaries before they went on and got the nomination.

Actually, that's a good point. Plus the nominee is also rewarded for "long service to the party": especially in the cases of Dole and McCain.
